The time has come folks and I need to get something a bit more practical to haul the kiddos around in. I've gone back and forth on this a hundred times already and I think it's finally time for me to depart with my beloved Carrera T.
The question I'm struggling with is, what do I replace it with? I don't want to spend a lot because it's going to be a pedestrian car BUT I do want it to be a nice ride. I'm not a huge fan of the Cayenne as I think it's a bit over priced. I like the Macan but it's a bit too small. I have an X5 for the wifey, so it might be ok to take the smaller Macan. Yes, I *could* throw two car seats into the rear of the 911 and call it a day, but I'd honestly rather not. Aside from the Porsche family of pedestrian rides, what would you guys/gals opt for as a replacement?
Some other options that come to mind include an S4, SQ5, Grand Cherokee (love the brand but don't know how they drive recently), M3 (sedan, probably too small for two car seats), X3 ... thoughts or other options?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts ya'll might have.
P.S. - My 911 T is GT Silver w/ Red CT Interior package and 4500 well loved and cared for miles. Manual transmission of course
If your looking down the line of S4, M3 sedan, try looking at even a slightly used Panamera 4S, Turbo/TurboS.
You can also find decent priced Cayenne GTS/Turbos if your patient enough.
Large enough to haul 4 people, seats fold down to haul anything pretty much, I've put 4 21" wheels with tires in my previous Panamera without problems. still sporty enough to fulfill cravings from the 991. You can also fix it up a bit and hot rod that thing for massive power and still be docile enough to take family around. I went from a Panamera to a 991 plus also have my wife's Cayman R, plus have had bunch of times I had rented a Mecan and Cayenne, so I have a good idea of the size, the comfort of the various sizes of Pcars.
If you want a sports sedan, the conversation starts and ends with the Giulia Quadrifoglio for me. It makes the Panamera seem like a truck in comparison. The M3 is old and will be replaced within 18 months with the new platform. I've owned 2 of these 3 cars and spent plenty of time behind the wheel of the other. No competition for a driver's experience - the Alfa is in another league, practicality is excellent as I could easily get 2 adults in the backseat. Reliability? That's another question.

Ha, unfortunately reliability is a must! I’ve never paid much attention to the Alfa’s to be honest as I’ve heard reliability is an issue. Can’t deal with stuff breaking constantly.

MB E63 wagon is very fast and will cost you as much as the 911. That would be my first pick. Sedan wise, the new 3-series with the turbo six for half the price.

You must have read the review in the last Car & Driver! They loved it but too many problems took away from the experience...been there, done that so I agree.
Too hard to pick something for you, sorry, but for us my wife is getting a new G Wagon, and we do not have kids. However, check out the new Volvo wagon - a neighbor has one and it is pretty nice.
I'd hate to sound corny but there truly truly is no substitute. BMW/Mercedes. Bleh, not special. Any other Porsche, bleh. It would have to be another 911, performante, 675LT/720s, F12 etc..
If I can't have any of those I'm looking at a Ford Raptor/Toyota Tundra loaded and supercharged... MAYBE an Escalade lease or an older unique MT... Everything else today is an appliance. Cars are so overpriced. Paying 40/50/60-90k for anything in those segments is a pure rip off. We will see how the new C8 is.
