Default Car Shipping

I need to ship a 2009 Porsche from Carolina to California. I understand from reading all the posts that Intercity, Horseless & Reliable are most recommended. They certainly look to be very good & cater to high end market with quotes from $3K & up.

I'm hoping people will share more recent experiences transporting car across the country & have recommendations.

Thank you

Wrong gen, but you could try Plycar. If you are looking for enclosed, what you mentioned sounds about right.

I used Chris Korte - he's very reliable - here is his # 316-990-0052 or 866-536-9307
He had options of open/ semi - enclosed and enclosed.

I did enclosed from NY to CA

I am looking into this as well, do most people feel enclosed is worth the price difference?

I’ve used two in the last year, Go2 Transportation and Reliable. Go2 was fine, but I wanted to use them a second time and they went radio silent - no response to email or phone calls. Because of that I used Reliable and that was a great experience, constant communication and totally professional.
Realize that when you search online you are dealing with a lot of brokers who are subcontracting the actual move to almost anyone. Had a friend who went that route to ship his son’s car to college in New Orleans and it ended up being a guy with a pickup truck and dolly. With a higher end carrier at least you know they are bonded and insured.

With an open trailer, at the very least you will be scraping a ton of bugs off your car, if not stone chips.

Yes, totally for peace of mind in my opinion. Definitely shop around to compare prices as you don't want to get taken for a ride, but I wouldn't bargain hunt too much for the shipping IMO - YMMV. Timing and availability I've found can impact pricing too

I had both a 911 GTS and VW Tiguan shipped from MD to CA late last year for $2900 by Plycar. Cars were received dirty, but no damage. Reliable quoted the same amount, but could not narrow their pick-up window to less 6-weeks.

Good luck.

A while back - a LONG while back - I shipped my wife's car from Los Angeles to Boston in an open trailer. It arrived perfectly intact, but filthy beyond your wildest dreams. It had to go through the car wash twice.

I don't really understand why this is so. We drove my car the same distance, and didn't get filthy. It's like there's something about the open car carriers that sucks in dirt and sprays it on the cars. And the trucks drive through swamps to make sure there's dirt to spread on the cars.

Enclosed is definitely worth the extra charge. Keeps car clean and reduces possibility of road hazard damage or vandalism. I used to use FedEx when they had a car transport division. Now it’s called Passport Auto Transport. BTW, I live near Horseless Carriage’s HQ here in NJ. They’re trucks always look old and dirty to me.

Unless you need it in a hurry always ask for "space available" to get the best rate, and try to avoid the timeframe before or after the major auctions. And Intercity and Reliable are my favorites, enclosed of course.

We are retired snowbirds and i found a small auto transport company I've used a maybe 8 times between Orlando and Chicago. He has around 15 rigs now, half of them are small trailers pulled by pickup trucks. Great service at near half off the typical shippers' pricing. Twice it was pretty dirty, but there is plenty of savings to compensate for cleaning. I'll keep using him.

Dirty? Are they open trailers?

I had my 911 shipped from Philadelphia to Seattle in about a week in an open truck for $1350. It was a little bit dirty but easily fixed with a quick wash. No damage.
