Is it much cheaper to buy this from Suncoast than from the dealer? What is typical cost from a dealer to install/activate?

It's cheaper to buy a whole new stand-alone navigation unit like a Garmin than that map update. Yeesh.

Give your local dealer a call and ask them how much they want but shop around online first and at the very least ask them to match the best price you find.

Actually I will probably not bother and I’ll just use Google Maps on my iPhone when I need nav for guidance, it’s the most accurate and takes traffic into account. I just installed the Rennline mount which holds the phone in the perfect location to glance at while driving.

NOT SO FAST ! The navigation map update is a little more complicated. What you buy from Suncoast (or elsewhere) is only the code to have your maps updated. The actual update maps and data resides on a set of disks that the dealer has and that are not available for consumer purchase, the code that you buy must be loaded into the car at the dealer while hooked up to the dealer Porsche tech computer (PIWIS sp?). Once your car has accepted the code, the dealer can download the updated data to your car. Confirm that they actually do have the 2019 map data discs.

There is a few of us who went through a quite painful learning process along the dealers who had no idea how the process worked a few months ago when the first updates were performed shortly after Suncoast started advertising the new navigation updates being available.

Check out this thread for the pain we went through... If it confuses you further, just re-read the first paragraph of this post.

The new Boxster Spyder coming out next Spring has Navigation as a $ 2,320 option. Why would you even bother to spec it? It's not as good as the navigation in your phone, and requires the updates, too. Some of the things Porsche does has to have them laughing at their HQ how stupid people are to pay for these options that are pretty ****-poor in execution. Navigation being one of them.

Another is Deviated Stitching that everyone is mad about. Really? It's just a thread bobbin . I own a retail furniture store and sell a lot of high-end leather upholstery. I was at Hancock & Moore's factory last week touring the facility when we walked through the sewing department and I saw all the colorful bobbins on threads next to the machines. I said to the VP of Sales "How much do you charge for deviated stitching, Phil?" He looked surprised and said "Why nothing, it takes all of half a minute to change a thread color and from there the labor is the same, why would we charge for that?" Why indeed..... I told him they're leaving money on the table and should start charging. He was floored when I told them what Porsche and Ferrari get for that sort of thing.

Or a 991.2. With google maps, it's always updated.

I think you can get updates for the internal nav over the air, too. Not this clumsy and expensive dealer-related process they use for the 991.1.

Shammerman is absolutely correct when he says:

NOT SO FAST ! The navigation map update is a little more complicated. What you buy from Suncoast (or elsewhere) is only the code to have your maps updated. The actual update maps and data resides on a set of disks that the dealer has and that are not available for consumer purchase, the code that you buy must be loaded into the car at the dealer while hooked up to the dealer Porsche tech computer (PIWIS sp?). Once your car has accepted the code, the dealer can download the updated data to your car. Confirm that they actually do have the 2019 map data discs.

I bought the "upgrade" discs from Suncoast for $245 rather than the dealer for $285. Unfortunately, when I went to the dealer tey had no idea that they needed to purchase the actual maps (for $20.00) and that my discs were just for licensing the code that provides the ability to load the dealer's map discs once he bought them. My dealer subsequently bought the maps and, with my $245 license discs loaded the maps and charged me $165.00 for that. I still have 4.76 and the "new" maps seem OK.
