Default 991.2 GTS or 991.1 GT3

Both can be had for similar money, albeit I'm looking at a couple of years or so older and higher mileage for the GT3, but... I had decided to get a GTS but seeing the GT3 being within my budget has made me question which might be the best option.

Realistically I won't do a lot of track days, although that has a reasonably high chance of changing. The car wouldn't have to be used every day as I have a GLC43 for general duties, but I'd be likely to use it most days.

Thoughts on these two cars and, in particular, anything I should be looking for if I go for a GT3. I've got a budget of just over £100K. That gets me a fully loaded 991.2.GTS just over a year old with just over 1K miles or a 991.1 GT3 from around 2014 with 10K+ miles.

I would go GT3 but that’s my end game car.

Very tempted, just wondering about using it as an almost daily car, reliability, anything to be concerned about, maintenance, etc, compared to the 991.2 GTS.

The 991.1 GT3 will have a ten year/ 120,000 mile engine warranty due to engine failures when they first came out, so reliability should be a non-issue. I would check to see if the engine was original or had been replaced. That being said, they are very different cars - comfort vs. raw, turbo torque vs. high rpm’s. You should drive both before deciding.

If it was .2 gt3 i would say its a no brainer. Its perfect. Even compared to a tuned gts.
Ive never driven a 991.1 but ive heard its a little anemic below 4500 rpm compared to the .2 and there is no manual.
that said, the 991.2 gts kicks a$$ out of the box, but i would personally do pdk on that one since the bigger turbos are not as responsive with the manual

991.2 C2 GTS with LWBs, RAS, PCCBs and lightweight wheels is almost same weight and can compete with any GT3 in 80% of the driving sessions.

GT3 is a must car in case more than 60% of your driving time is track based.

In case you follow tuning path there is no way GT3 car to beat your tunned GTS.

I daily’d a 991.1 GT3 for 3 years and nearly 20k, no problem at all.

Get the GT3

^^ For daily >> track I would go .2 GTS. Power available 'right now' without having to be in the sweet spot. Depending on spec the GTS likely has more comforts for a daily with little if any compromise in performance in that application.
Good luck with your decision.

I've had the .1 and .2 GT3 and I'm going to a GTS. The GT3 for me wasn't a livable daily driver. Its fantastic on the track. Its one of those personal things you'll get those who can daily a GT3 and those who can't.

GT3, unless you need the back seats. It is as comfortable as the GTS, but with much more presence, much more sound, much better transmission (the PDK-S is incredible) and the engine! Not much needs to be said there.

Warranty and reliability are two different things.

Considering the 991 GT3 I would always go for the .2

A .2 GTS will be faster than a GT3. Much more torque and similar HP. Due to high torque the GTS will feel faster in city driving. . You can drive comfortably around 2-2500 rpm and it will accelerate very fast from this RPM. The GT3 you need to keep over 4200 rpm for same affect.

If you track often and plan to adjust camber and ride heigh, sway bar, etc to dial in everything for optimal track performance the GT3 is your friend.

For anything else, the GTS.
