Uniden R7

The NC highway patrol in Greensboro use to drive lime vw golf's. It's getting almost not worth owning a fast car if you have to drive like a Prius all the time. You wonder whose Camaro that use to belong to. When I see cops driving 911's I'll know it's time to sell.

Did you install K Notch? That makes a big difference. i also turned K band down to 50%. Also, put TSF on.

Are you referring to the K block? It was updated with the new firmware. That is on, TSF off, K band sensitivity 50%, K wide detection. One town, the locals use K band. Otherwise I would turn it off.

Never felt I got ticked more because of the detector. It usually depends on the cop and the situation. I believe the detectors really help especially in those close encounter situations. I have been saved so I am a believer.
I was a long time Escort user and switched to the R3 3 years ago. Could not be happier. I pair it with Waze just as a back up. I would imagine the R7 is just that much better.

Been a long time V1 user here in CA. Have X and K bands completely off, as CHP only runs Ka. Some locals may be using K, but they rarely give speeding tickets unless you are being stupid. I use the V1 remote display in my BMW M5 and M635, with the main detector up on the passenger visor. I want the main detector dark at all times as that is less likely to attract LEO attention and attract fools following you because you have a detector. I used to drive a lot on US 101 between San Luis Obispo and the Bay Area, the directional arrows are essential in determining if a CHP is coming at you from the front or up from the rear. If you see one sitting on the side of the road, ALWAYS assume he has instant on Ka even if your detector is silent. Ask me how I know.
When I bought my 911 I could no longer use the V1 remote display because I have no cigar lighter port on the center console. I posted about retrofitting this option in another post. Did find a solution to this issue. See the attached photos.
I bought a Radenso Pro-M to use in the Porsche, but sent it back after a few weeks. It is about as sensitive as the V1, not much better, and of course, no arrows. The rear sensitivity is way down on the V1, even though Radenso claims "360 degree protection" which is marketing BS. My unit also was very slow to connect to GPS, sometimes taking as long as 2 to 3 minutes after a cold start.
I am considering the R7, which is what attracted me to this post. But it has no remote display capability which I consider to be one of the strong points of the V1.
Built this remote V1 display adapter to fit in the driver side cup holder. Adapter is made from a 2.5" diameter block of Delrin rod and drilled with a 13/16" bore for the V1 power adapter. Power is routed from a second power adapter in the footwell.

I just got an R3, my first ever RD after 25 yrs of driving (also, first 911). I guess i'm wondering why the R3, or even R1, don't have arrows. Seems it would be an easy add with the OLED display. Did they just keep it to the R7 so they could charge $300 more for arrows or is there a technical reason that it's more difficult to detect direction the signal is coming from?

I still use a V! with YaV1 on my phone, along with WAZE.
Just took a 300 mile drive to our vacation property cruising a steady 75-80 mph FWIW I was going with the flow of traffic, and let the people wanting to go quicker by.
Picked up 3 radar traps with 1-2 miles of knowledge, a the cop with laser in the ditch WAZE told me with plenty of notice.
Curious to try the R7.

You need to have two antennae to be able to have arrows on a detector, hence an increased cost.

I used my R3 for the first time yesterday. Drove about 150 miles and got 10+ hits, all but one were Honda/Acura BSM. I got another about 1000-1500 ft ahead of where a local cop had someone pulled over going the other direction. It was over a hump so I did get the warning before the visual.

Report back after the update.
I still keep K band on as the police in our province still use K band.
Just in the middle of a road trip through Montana and Idaho and some of the police still use K band.
Have picked up all of the radar traps with at least 1 mile of warning, even with instant on (as there were cars ahead of me).
I watched a car I was cruising with get nailed by a cop coming from behind as he never noticed it, and I dropped back. Go V1.
