Default SIM card error message

Did a lot of searching but can’t figure out what the issue is with this message .. purchased it used 2017 991.2 4s with 8k miles. The center area has slots but no sims cards in it. Message comes on every 5 minutes and have to switch sources to get rid of it. Any thoughts ?

Have you contacted a dealer? Surely the car is under warranty.

I have the same error message but I do have a SIM card, I think this happens when it gets hot in the car. Removing and reinserting the SIM card works for me.
I also have a 2017 C4S, the SIM slot is between the 2 SD card slots.

My 2017 991.2 required a SIM to utilize the online services (this changed in later model years). My SIM was provided by the dealer and I later subscribed to an AT&T data plan (after 3 months of free service). If you are certain that you don't have a SIM inserted in that middle slot (you have to push it to make it pop out) then you can't utilize the online features, but it's odd that it gives you that error since my car did not whenever I removed the SIM. I'm not sure what those signal bars in the lower left corner of the PCM display might mean - perhaps you do have a SIM inserted and it isn't activated with a data provider?

Thanks guys. No SIM card in the slot. Going to take it in to the dealer this week to get it figured out.

What did the dealer say about the issue, were they able to fix it?

Any Update Nick? I am having the same issue and would like to bring back the fix to my dealership when I take it in for service.

Thanks
Jason

What year is your Porsche? I set up a new thread on the issue, but no responses yet.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1205...7-991-2-a.html

I plan to take it into the shop in a week or two to have them replace my storage lid button and have them look at the PCM. I thought it would be better to already know the fix so I could provide it to them. In discussions they think it could be linked with the Sirius/XM Updates that are plaguing the 991.1 PCM's. I also sent a message to Porsche Connect to see if they heard of the issue.

Sorry. I have a 2016 C2S. I have no probs using phone or Bluetooth stuff. Due to issues with online map updates (other threads on 991.2 nav database online updates) I tried to insert a SIM card and constantly get the ‘defective’ message, even when it’s the SIM card straight out of my phone.

Any new information about this? I’ve just started getting this message and it will not go away no matter what I do. Sometimes it goes away on its own but I have no clue why. I thought it was because I had to turn off the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on my phone.

i’ve recently switched to first net which is a separate branch from AT&T for first responders.

does this have something to do with a Sim card in the car? If so where is it located?

Posted on my thread, so sharing here again to bump this... I've got to get this figured...It's a PITA.

Does anybody have a clue about this recent msg. I've been getting. The only thing that changed was me iPhone got a new "FIRST NET" SIM card (First Net is a part of AT&T but for first responders only to use a different band).

When the msg. comes up shortly after getting in the car, I can't do anything to make it go away. Sometimes it'll go away on it's own but I have no clue why.

My AM/FM and XM work fine but I can't control anything until the msg. goes away.

The SIM must be fine because it still links up to my other vehicles just fine. So this has to be a Porsche thing.

I'm looking for any clues. My service guy at Hennessey Porsche wasn't aware of a fix either but I don't think they put too much time into it because it was there for something else warranty related.

BTW, where is a SIM card slot in the car?? I figured it was referring to the SIM in my phone.

The "PORSCHE" plate below the screen flips up. There are three slots there, the middle is for the SIM card, the outer two are for SD cards.
