I totally would get an R, but can't justify it as a second car for a 911...they're both small fast cars that serve similar purpose and a second car needs to be SUV/ family hauler or a truck for me. Plus the R is crazy expensive all things considered when also you can get a (made in Mexico) GTI for so much less and mostly the same experience/performance. 40k for an R, but a GTI can be found for 25k, which I would consider 'disposable.'
It is expensive but I drove both the fabulous GTI and an R and I thought the R was worth the considerable extra $. It's a perfect second car for me as it will hold four adults in reasonable comfort, including luggage, and also haul bikes, skis and boots, etc. And it's tremendous fun to drive.

God bless,
TT

That's my wife, Cathy, taking delivery at the BMW Performance Center in Greer, SC from the incomparable Formula Vee racer Donnie Isley.

Replacement for the BMW M5--this Golf R (with 6MT) is a wonderful car. I still have my wife. ;-)

A 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 (owned 51 years), a 1962 VW Convertible (family car in 1962), a 1974 911 (owned 42 years) and a trusty 1991 Chevy pickup . . . all to back up my 2015 Carrera S with 43,000 miles on it now.

I heard a Giulia QV the other day. Great exhaust sound.

Dodge Durango RT AWD. Ancient Mercedes chassis and running gear with 5.7 liter Hemi V8. One of my favorite vehicles. Great fun to drive

Lucky you. Something about Dodge, they don’t follow the norm. I see you are on the SF area, but if you haven’t been to Chrysler Nationals in PA, you NEED to go. It is amazing. I’ve been there the past two years and unfortunately won’t be around for this year. You need to book a hotel months in advance.

I used to go there decades ago (in the 80's and 90's), when I lived in TN. I agree, it was/is an amazing event! Back then, an OEM 71 'cuda grille was $3000, and I thought that was so amazing and out of reach. Now, vendors like AMD and others make it so you don't need to scrounge for $$$ parts. BTW, my 'cuda is not numbers matching, so I am doing a bit of retro modding. Keeping the exterior stock, but making it quick and nimble.

Here's the shop progress from today:
