Default Great deal on a warranty?

I was at my local dealer getting my summer tires put on yesterday and asked the service manager if they would sell a warranty for my 911. I have a 2013 991 Carrera S cabriolet with 67k miles on it.

To my surprise he quoted me $8200 for 4 years/48k miles, that would mean by the end of the warranty period my car would be 10 years old or c 125k miles. He said the coverage was pretty much the same as CPO and the deductible per visit would be $50.

Now I know we are uncharted territory with how the 991 will hold up as we reach these mileages and age, but it looks like a good deal to me.

What do you guys think?

Get Fidelity Platinum and put the difference into an ETF fund.

For $8200 I will gamble that the car will hold up. You would likely need a major system failure like the PDK to recover the $8200.

not so sure....

late last year I had one of the active engine mounts go bad, that cost $1400. recently a solenoid sensor for the fuel tank went bad $800. So in the last 6 months $2200 of bills... vs the $2050 per year of coverage...

I agree Fidelity (or CNA which I had on my previous 911) will be a more cost effective extended coverage with exactly the same coverage as a policy sold through the dealer. And the dealer will service the car and coordinate coverage up front in conjunction with the repairs.

As the the OP is new on the board, it would most likely be helpful fot him if a few of you who have recently purchased extended coverage would post contact information on where you got it from and even rate information along with the model year and mileage.

Do a search of threads in this forum. Lots of info as to who sells them. Fidelity's sales are usually done through finance managers. Also, get the Platinum policy

It's the mileage that's making it expensive. As a point of reference, I bought a Fidelity Platinum in September when my '13C2S had 41k on it, I paid $4100 for 3/36 with a $250 deductible.

I am still undecided about an extended warranty. 2017 991.2 C2s. Coming off of lease in June. Will pay cash for residual on car and plan to keep it long term. Less than 10K on the car now. I will see what the dealer offers and go from there although I seriously doubt the dealer will offer me anything close to an acceptable price.

FWIW here's my experience. I've owned six 911s during the past 49 years: the first was a 1971 911E and the last a 997S. I typically keep my 911s anywhere from 7 - 10 years. Although I never kept track of my out of pocket after warranty repair expenses, I never encountered anything of significance. During this time frame I did have three Porsche goodwill repairs. All my 911s were bought new, most were custom ordered. I always had my 911s serviced at Porsche dealers and followed Porsche's service recommendations. Just a guess on my part but I suspect that the chance of getting a goodwill repair is increased when you can prove that you car had been maintained according to Porsche's recommendations, and it certainly helps when you have a Porsche service manager act as your advocate.

So in my case an after market warranty would have been a waste of money. Although there are no guarantees, my experience is that well maintained Porsches are unlikely to incur any serious repair costs. OTOH if I purchased a used Porsche, I'd probably give an after market warranty serious consideration.
