Very early observations of my new Targa
Sadly, its snowing here again so the timing to take delivery on Friday and immediately drive the car to where its getting a ceramic coating worked out well (unfortunately, I put less than 20 kms on the car! ). Some very early post delivery observations:
I snapped a couple quick picks before getting into it:
- The "Porsche specialist" who was responsible for the delivery was very enthusiastic; however, not surprising that she didn't know as much as I did about the car. She raved about how its the first Targa she's delivered and described it as being similar to a spaceship due to being so futuristic ! After she was in the car with me for approx. 10 minutes, my salesman came by to congratulate me and commented on the great decision to get a stick … that's when my "specialist" noticed the car had a manual transmission and was almost as impressed about that as she was with the car being a Targa ...
- Since the weather was nice, I put the top down before driving off. I did notice some buffeting around 65 kph (approx. 40 mph) and then it subsided as the speed increased.
- It took approx 5 minutes into my drive to get a compliment … a guy next to me at a traffic light was gushing over the car.
- The manual will take a little getting used to as it definitely felt different than my 981's 6 speed. This is not a bad thing and I look forward to spending some quality seat time to break it in. I rarely use 5th and find myself sometimes forgetting to shift into 6th in my Boxster so it appears the 3 upper gears on this thing wont get a ton of action. I did get the sport exhaust for a reason
- Although I asked for comfort settings, the dealership set the tire pressure quite high (38F/ 46R). Frankly, the ride was noticeably more compliant than my 991.2 C2S (with SPASM, PDCC and RAS) so perhaps with this car, I'll be happy with higher pressure settings than my C2S.
- I do believe that the power of this car is more than adequate for 95% of the time although the extra weight of this car has me thinking about modding it.
- I'm very happy I got the natural leather interior (expresso). Both my 981 and C2S had the regular black interior so this upgrade is a welcome change. Since there's another thread on whether to choose this or sport Chrono, I might as well mention that I didn't bother with SC (still believe its necessary with PDK) and I look forward to rev match on my own.

Curious about the wind buffeting you experienced at 40mph. Windows up or down? Wind deflector above front window up or down? I have never experienced any buffeting near that speed, but never travel with my windows up/top down and never drive with wind deflector up so curious if you had done either.

Classic and beautiful, hope you get some early spring weather to enjoy it top-down in Ottawa. Lovely place, visited a few times on business.
I think your combination of manual with open-air-driving yields the the highest 'feels fast' to 'is fast' ratio. Found that to be the case with my Ferrari and Boxsters, now again with Carrera S Cab. Enjoy!
p.s. this generation of clutches seem to want some miles to bed-in (at least that was the case with my 982). A bit grabby at first, then light and easy to feather. Also: agree, with manual and desire for roll-your-own throttle-blip downshifts, SC amounts to one very expensive clock.

You will love the Targa more and more every time you take it out. Congratulations!!! Once you will be able to to take it above 4000RMP, I am confident ypu will be happy with the power.

Just push down on wind deflector to raise it. Same to lower it. That said, I cannot tell any difference up or down so just leave mine down all the time. As for windows, I have seen posts that it’s best to lower them just a smidge below fully up to reduce buffeting.

I am not a fan of Black cars but yours looks nice - post an interior pic soon for us. I notice a difference in noise only with the position of the wind deflector so try that the next time you drive and see what you think; I have not had any buffeting at the speed you mention. I have my tires set at 35/40 and have played around with them and I like it where it is at now but whatever feels best for you is what you want. And the manual will get better over time, trust us.

Great selection! Congratulations!
As you settle in with your Targa, you will learn some nice things about your car. We'll all be interested to hear your findings. I went with PDK and SC with my Targa 4S after much consideration of MT! I'll always wonder if I should have stayed with it. The Targa how ever configured is a great variant giving the owner all the benefits of the others. Good luck and have fun. Keep us in the know.
