For a 991 not only wouldn't I patch the tire, but the thought of patching wouldn't even cross my mind. $650 for new rear tires and another $80 for mounting and balancing is a small price to pay for peace of mind. Moreover the new rears will wear out at about the same time as the existing fronts.
