Default Radar detectors: current state?

Im typically an Escort guy. Ive used V1s and appreciate the following, but Ive always gone back to Escort. I have several. I have 9500ixs hardwired in all my cars. I have a Max that is a couple years old that was in my previous C4S. I am currently shopping for a new detector for my new car. The Escort 360 seemed like an easy choice until i started reading reviews.

The Uniden R3 seems to dominate everything out there. Anyone have experience with the current top of the line detectors? Any advice is appreciated!

I haven't kept up with radar technology, j had V1 in the past.

I've learned using Waze is the best for me. Radar detectors give me too much false confidence. Instant on and laser have always gotten me.

I really try to keep up and I have the R3. It’s amazing how sensitive and quite it is. Also, in April they will come out with a R7. That detector will have arrows and the performance of the R3. Check out vortex radar site. Google it. He is very helpful

Uniden R3 is best for range. R7 like was mentioned is going to be the one to have soon, although the head guy from Uniden just went over to Radenso, so their should detectors should be getting even better as well.

Vortex radar is the guy to follow for anything radar detector related.

Have had the V1 though in the past, good unit, most Escort models I have had as well, they are all good detectors.

I've used uniden r3 and V1. Both work well. Uniden is more user friendly.. I like how you can configure the display to only come on when it detects something and it automatically enters quiet mode at a set speed. It goes off for K band a lot which is usually false positive and you get used to the freqs it displays (often honda or nissan safety tech). So far only Ka band has been the real deal and range is impressive..

I liked the arrows on V1, but it had so many false alarms, I eventually started to ignore it. The beeping was annoying and you had to double take what band it was. You manually had to mute it which got old. Over time it became a hassle to use it.

I noticed that some police cars drive around with no radar on and don't even turn it on...even though I maybe be going too fast (or borderline). Typically the guys out to give speeding tickets are pretty obvious with a radar detector. Its either constantly on or they're turning it off/on frequently and the signal bounces like what seems like miles.

If money is no object and you want the best protection, then it is Stinger VIP. The standard unit only comes with one laser jammer. So you need to purchase 3 more for full protection. You need two at the front and two at the rear.
The latest ones are fibre optic and are unbelievably tiny. It also does point to point and tells you what your average speed is whilst travelling in that section, so you know if you need to pull over to avoid a ticket.
Its so far ahead of the competition its not even a contest. But then again, so is its price. The base unit here is $3,800 AUD. By the time you add the additional 3 laser jammers, its around $7,000 AUD. Plus install.
But you guys seem to get every thing at half price. So you are probably looking at $3,500 USD for everything. Which I would say would be at least double of the units you are talking about?

4 point 0: I have to disagree with you again on this topic. Stinger has been proven repeatedly to no longer be the best. Its bettered in both radar and Laser protection for a fraction of the price.

I did a ton of research on this. If you want a windshield mount then the best is the Uniden. I have it and it is an excellent unit.
The best laser protection is made by AL Priority. They are without peer and they jam every laser gun in existence and update their firmware regularly.
As far as built in radar, most would say Escort CI. Thats what I have but I have heard Radenso is excellent and I also used Netradar which is very good.
I understand that people hate Escort as a company and I will agree that Escort and Paypal may be the two worst companies in America, but the Escort is very good and tops in all categories.

I waited for Escort to release a radar only custom solution and integrated the AL Priority into the installation. Expensive, but no tickets so far, front and rear arrows, auto lockout and full laser protection.

No other solution can offer that..

Had been using an Escort 9500 for many years until I dropped it when changing cars and it stopped working. Did the research on Vortex etc and bought the Uniden R3. This thing has amazing range and the GPS is great for blocking known false alerts. Bought a second Uniden for my other car to avoid any future dropping episodes!

I’ve got the Escort Max 360 Ci installed in my car with a custom mirror display. It’s fantastic. I highly recommend it. The Escort Live system works very much like Waze, which is a nice added bonus.

I'm an R3 convert. It is the best for me at this time after years of Escort use.

If anyone wants a practically new Uniden R3, I have one purchased about 6 months ago. I prefer the V1 in my 991 and the R3 (or any radar detector) will not work in my Tesla S with the glass that is used. I'll sell for $325 shipped.
