Wasn't the OP asking about radar detectors, not laser jammers?

In my neck of the woods, enforcement operations rarely run laser... They have zero trouble filling their quotas with trigger Ka band, or if the're really feeling unmotivated, always-on Ka. Seems like the departments only break out laser when they get a new one as a toy for a few weeks, then decide it is FAR more work with no better results. Regular radar will give them a new offender just minutes after they finish resetting from the last ticket written.

We have side of the road boxes that are on trailers now, that are laser. As well as hand held laser. Even red light cameras now, are being fitted with speed cameras. So if you nail it to beat the red light, you get done for speeding. Becoming a Nanny Country.

I thought the SF Bay Area was bad.

I have the Escort Redline, which they tout as their longest range model, in one car and the R3 in another. In terms of range, I think the R3 is better but not by much. Always-on Ka is becoming less common. Most cops seem to pulse or flip their Ka on and off to hide from detectors. Obviously no RD can protect you from that if you're the one being clocked. Without a scout car in front of me, I always keep my speed <10 above. There is one area where the R3 is superior however- the filtering of false alarms (K bands from cars, doors, etc). The R3 goes off as much as the Redline when a false K is detected; however, it displays a much weaker signal that quickly disappears when the signal attenuates, ie when you pass the car with the BS monitoring . I also like the lighter weight of the R3 and the greater customization options, eg color and sound of the display and alarms. If Uniden is coming out with an RD with directional signals, I would definitely wait for it. With pulsing Ka alerts, it is hard to tell if it is a cop is ahead of you or sneaking up behind you. This would solve that problem. I never considered the V1 because I wanted a non detectable detector .

Have both plus several other Escorts. The Uniden R3 is tops.

I have had the beltronics remote RX75 pro and added on the escort ZR4 laser blocker in multiple cars over a 8 year period. These units work but I am not so sure about the new stuff. Most police agencies don't have laser. My setup has 2 front laser and 1 rear. They aim for your license plate. I have probably logged around 150K miles on these units and they work Combine them with waze and your really have something. My old V1 is useless. IF anyone wants it I will send it to you for the cost of shipping. The software is old and they charge as much to update it as a new unit.

A couple of notes. Escort and beltronics are the same company and thus the same equipment. My ZR4 laser blocker plugs directly into my rx75 pro backplane. Also, both companies customer service sucks. For the price though you cant beat the product. Hmm...that seems familiar....

Beltronics does not seem to be making their discounted remote unit any longer but they can be found on the web for sub 1K. As for the escort shifter here is the new one....price seems reasonable.

4point 0: both of your links are from 2015 and are 4 years old. In fact, Radar Roy has died during this time.

There have been some updates to the V1, but you have to pay for them, something like $100 including shipping.

To get the most out of the V1, you have to pay for the latest updates, buy the bluetooth module, and pair with the YaV1 or JBV1 apps. Then there is learning curve for those apps and the V1 has to learn its environment before a lot of the falses go away. I think it is a lot to ask for an owner, unless he/she is really into that kind of stuff.

It is a good detector if you know how to use it with the apps.

I think that's true of all modern detectors. You have to keep the software and the firmware updated for them to perform.

I chose Escort for several reasons, but one in particular was the fact that the Denver metro area uses traffic sensing radar to monitor traffic speeds on major thoroughfares around the city. This system blasts K-band radar intermittently to monitor speed. Sometimes it's every 30 seconds, sometimes it's every minute. It varies throughout the day. Escort has an excellent filter for this called TSR (Traffic Sensor Rejection). Before I had TSR, my radar detector was useless. I know that V1 now has something similar, but I haven't tried it personally. I also liked the concealed nature of an installed system. I like being able to park my car and leave the top down for a while without having to take the radar detector off the windshield and lock it up. For me, the Escort is the perfect choice. Here's a quick photo that shows the front sensors in the bumper cover.

I had an Escort 8500 X50 black for many years and it did the job for me and I was very happy with it. Replaced(updated) it about a year ago with a Uniden R1 which seems to be more sensitive and I also like it being smaller and lighter.
