Carrera T lightweight glass in snow, rain, cold weather?
Like Zeus993, I'm also afflicted with WPE(wandering Porsche eye) and the Carrera/Carrera T is on my radar. I just so happened to be in my dealer's neighborhood (strange how that happens) and took a test drive of a Carrera T. Its a wonderful car and I liked everything about it. I echo all the positive reviews. This one had the lightweight glass and I was wondering how it was in the cold weather/rain/snow. I routinely use my rear defroster in the cooler months especially with ice and snow. I hate when I can't see out of my rear window.
I'm always looking for my next car and the T is at or near the top. However, the Cayman GT4 is right around the corner and that could also be the one.

Hey @crossroads, I DD my Carrera T in MA and I can tell you I’ve had no issue with the rear glass fogging up in the rain. We haven’t really had proper snow yet so can’t tell you about that, but I had no fogging problems in light snow. I have seen it fog up when the rear of the car was being sprayed with hot water for cleaning, so I know it’s definitely possible. However, I do think the gorilla glass is less susceptible to fogging compared to the traditional glass I had in my Cayman. I only got my T 3 months ago so YMMV.

AFAIK, the only way to get standard glass in a T, or GT car for that matter, is to spec sun protection glazing (factory tint). My car was a dealer spec model and they ticked glazing, so I lost the LWG, interestingly the dealer wasn’t aware that this would occur when specced as such. Bet there are a lot of GT car owners out there where they didn’t realise this to be be the case either.

I'm up here in Toronto Canada and although we are having a milder than normal winter, no issues. Funny thing is I still have the defrost button that lights up but I don't think does anything of course.

So any further comment from folks? This is one of the last things keeping me from pulling the trigger. I daily my 2017, but as great as the PDK is, and it is awesome, I have my eyes on a manual again, and well a T sure does fit that bill! But the no rear defrost has me crazy gunshy here in the Boston.

It's been fine for me in RI but my T is a garage kept. I do put snow tires on it and drive it in the winter but I don't have to worry about snow/ice removal when I take it out. I use rain x on all my glass and snow/ice doesn't really accumulate on anything when driving

To further resurrect this old, but still relevant, thread .... Now that 911 T owners have had more driving time, can anyone give some more insight into how the rear window without defroster does in colder weather, including rain, frost, snow? I'm considering buying a 2019 911 T, but I'm in CT where the weather ain't always sunny and warm, to say the least.
One thing I did find is that because the rear glass is thinner, it will thaw/defrost quicker on its own in colder, frosty weather, according to Porsche North America:
