I'm sort of leaning towards the Targa because I like the uniqueness, style and and open top option. But your comment is what I was also thinking. The 991.1 GT3 prices have really come down as a result of supply and maybe the engine issue?

I don't have a daily driver as I walk to work.
I have a sedan for kid weekend limo duties and a race car for wheel to wheel.
I do attend 10-15 DE's a year in a C2S, but have been spending more time in the right seat.

I'm not looking for advice to fill a need, I'm really trying to get the pulse on the forum for different lines/models of the Carrera.

I had a 991.1 GT3, and I loved it. I now have a 991.2 GT3, and I loved it. Every S or 4S model 911 I've tried, regardless of generation, has been underwhelming. I would imagine more so in a heavy targa body. The GTS is a great car (I also have a 991.2 GTS), but I'd still go with the GT3, especially since you have other cars for other needs. It's not at all uncomfortable in my opinion, and is perfectly livable on a daily basis. I wouldn't personally worry about the engine issue.

A 991.2 Targa GTS on the other hand would be a great alternative if you want to spend more.

If I could have Targa in GTS trim, I think that would be my sweet spot.

I would get the GT 3, I believe it will trade better than the others and it drives much different than the other two you are considering, it a total BEAST!!

I'm also thinking that. The 991.1 and 997.2 GT3's are overlapping in price these days. Now I'm thinking 991.1 GT3, in 3 years trade it for the 991.2 when the 992 GT3's are released!

Well, we'd all pick what we picked, right?

I'd pick the Targa. I like alcohol but I don't choose my beverage based on alcohol content. I'm more interested in flavor.

I also like speed. All of these choices have plenty of speed. Closed, the Targa is cozy in the winter, cool in the summer. Opened, the Targa is full of the world's marvelous flavors. The pleasures offered by the Targa are unique and rare... and that's why I think those will hold their value best.

(But I don't care!)

From a pure resale consideration, a 991.1 GTS 7MT will probably lose the least. There are not a ton of them out there (unlike the 991.1 GT3) and the cost of admission limits downside. If you want a PDK, get the GT3. Personally, I would find one that has had the engine replaced with the G series rather than take my chances with hoping the old engine blows without the 10 year warranty. Targa will be hard to predict because we don’t know what the 992 Targa will be like.

Sorry too aggressive a response by me. Needed coffee. I agree no body wants to get killed on the back side but really the only way not to is to by a more limited car and not drive it.
If you are buying a car to drive and track it will depreciate. For me the GT3 is the special car.

I would never go near a 991.1 GT3 irrespective of the warranty - you need to be aware of the detail

What detail are you referring to? The engine issue?

I think 991.1 GT3 prices are low right now because of the number made and the engine issue.
The only issue I have with the engine is with it blowing up on me while on track at high speed, but issues on track happen all the time with all sorts or cars.

For those prices I'd take a GT3 all day. Have you driven them all? Very different experiences. From a depreciation standpoint I bet the cheapest option loses less money overall but percentage-wise, I'd place my bets on the 3.

I cringe when I keep hearing people talk about depreciation...buy what you will enjoy the most! They are all great choices for many and personally I could have bought a new GT3 but since you cannot drop the top it was not an option.
