Default CPO claim denied on headlight micro cracks

The Dealer service rep called and said Porsche NA denied my request to replace a headlight with micro cracks. My 2013 4S has a CPO from a prior owner. The service rep had warned me in advance that it was unlikely they’d cover as I didn’t buy the car at a Porsche dealer. He’d said the micro cracks are really rare and never saw one. That was a nice touch. I’m disappointed and will ask the service rep for more rationale on the decision.

I remember looking at a Ferry Porsche quote in the service department while they checked my car. Went something like “quality sports cars are something to be expected at Porsche, that’s the way it’s always been at Porsche.” Ironic at least to me.

CPO should be as good as new warranty in my view but I guess not. ALL service departments know about the head light problems with these cars. Do you have another dealer you can go to, I would even doubt they even asked Porsche NA.

CPO is not transferable if bought from a non-Porsche dealer.

Also CPO is not the same as a new car warranty. It does not cover cosmetic issues

Try another dealer and if you get the same response take some pics and include them (yes, hard copy) with a letter to PCNA and I bet they will contact you to discuss a resolution.

Thanks Bob. I think your suggestion is the best route.

Vistador, the CPO was recognized as valid. Porsche NA was said to have more discretion on CPO claims that were not were major issues. Also, the lack of a track record of 911 purchases at Porsche dealers didn’t help. They asked about this.

It may sound old fashioned but I did just that in the past and I was very satisfied with the results albeit I cannot disclose more than that based on the document I had to sign.

I had a similar situation on my wife's Audi Q5. Very fine cracks in the headlight lens -- really it almost looked like delamination or something around the edge. Audi wouldn't cover it either...said headlights were a "wear and tear" item similar to the windshield?! I dunno, I tried 2 dealers and gave up after that. The headlight still worked fine. I made sure they documented in the vehicle's history records in case it gets worse and the light actually stops functioning or something.

Default fidelity platinum

I am purchasing the 10/100 fidelity platinum next week on my 12.5. I wonder if it would cover a headlight or door panel issue ?

Correct. CPO only covers functional defects not cosmetic ones.

I'm going in next week to look at extended warranty's. How much is yours? Did you negotiate the price?

I had mine replaced under CPO last summer. Initial response was that it was cosmetic and not covered. I pressed it, told them it was not cosmetic. It was a known manufacturers defect and they have been replacing them under CPO for others. And I sent my SA a link from Rennlist that showed that. He acknowledged and sent the request in to Porsche NA and presto, they approved! Do a search for posts that validate that PCNA has covered this.

I would try another dealer. Good luck!

I had delaminating taillights replaced under the factory warranty (it was CPO but still within the first four years of the original warranty) on my previous 991.1S.

But it is transferable if the car is bought privately. Wasn't clear to me which is the case here.

My experience has always been that the service department can get most things through depending on how they write it up and how motivated they are to make it happen. I have had things approved in the past that were in the grey zone of eligible. This is when the fabled 'relationship' definitely comes in to play, and when they start to look at how many cars you have had, where you bought them, how you service them.....it's a bit like the airlines and point scoring their frequent frequent-fliers.

I assume if PCNA were asked to approve once, then it is on the system so a second dealer visit is somewhat pointless......
