Sounds like a manufacturing quality issue that slipped past the Q/C process. Especially if no further problems after the water pump is replaced.

Lets see if the 2019 cars have the same problem or there may be a TASB

So...

1 month after water pump rebuild... here we go again. Seems much worse this time. I had it up on a lift last week and all was fine.

I hope to to have it back before Christmas.

It's possible that the heat from the muffler is causing this problem. If you look at the new 992 design, there's a large heat shield separating the muffler from the engine keeping the heat away from the water pump.

Interesting theory.

I have 7k on my 991.2 but got it in Oct so temps have been cooler up here in Toronto, so far so good.

Keeping a close eye on it though.

I have 10k miles on my T now without any problems, so I hope that means I'm in the clear on this issue since it looks like it's happening at less than 5k miles for most.

Reading all the coolant threads I would agree.

Hopefully mine Ine gets resolved.

Last week I sent my ‘17 C2S to dealer due to the coolant leak. Above picture was taken when I found coolant level dropped to min and residue built up on the piping.

Today just got my car back with the water pump replaced under warranty. The diagnosis says “FOUND WATER PUMP LEAKING OUT OF FRONT SEAL”. Glad it’s taken care of right away without much hassle because there wasn’t any onward dripping to be spotted.

BTW, I also got another common problem — the rattling. The technician spent quite an effort to address the door panel rattle problem. See below description.

Picked up the car today. They replaced the entire water pump this time. Hopefully this will last!
