I just got confirmation today from my dealer that the 992 T has been confirmed internally. No other details at all yet but I’ve put a deposit down.
It will have to be good to replace these but current Porsche form is good if the GT3 is anything to go by!
I am a little skeptical because of where this fits in the current line. 2022 cars are already announced and the 992 has been out since 2020, so the 992.1 probably only has one more year to go past 2022 (covid may have disrupted that and it could be 2). It doesn’t make sense to sell the T for one year so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I think for it to happen on a .1, it will need an announcement sooner rather than later. Also have to wonder if/when the 992.2 goes to hybrid, if the manual goes away completely?
If it happens, please just give us some better colors this time.
Seriously though, turbos-aside, what differentiates a 992 T from a 992 GTS with the lightweight package?
It’s cheaper and will bring a manual to the base 992…and that’s about it. I think the T will be a total waste on the 992. I’d just pony up for the GTS light weight package for a better car in EVERY way with more options. The T’s reason for being in the first place in 2018 is completely lost on the 992:
1. Light weight
2. Light weight
3. Light weight
narrow body was cool too with the LSD…back to basics
now “light weight” is offered on higher models and everything is a widebody. But it will sell well because 992s are in high demand and will probably be ordered by dealers with PDKs
sorry had to edit my post when I forgot a dirty pic of my T after [gasp]… I drove it in the rain! Damn blue doesn’t show off dirt well though.
The only reason I see a 992 T as being sought over ours is if/if they wind up doing a MT... If they do that, then all bets are off, even with the bigger body and all-glass interior bits... We're suckers for more HP, even if we don't need it. And the 992 is a better steering/handling platform based on that front end change.
And solid point on the LW package... That basically T-ifies the entire range, but isn't as tasty in the marketing department.
but which one is "faster" on paper? that is all that matters, no?
Hard to say I guess. If it wasn't some advantage in lap time I doubt it would be on the GT cars. That said I have experienced some oddities on track in GT3's when it changes from being opposite to being in phase. I've talked to other drivers who have caught that too. It's not super common because you need to exploit it in a transition from slower speed tight turn to higher speed. I would think most of the time it's a system the average driver won't notice, and lessens the tendencies of rear engine behavior. For a car like the T I like that I feel the weight transfer and rear engine. I love having to massage a 911 into a turn and then use the rear weight as you unwind and ease throttle earlier than one can in a front engine car. You lose some of that experience with RAS. Though to your point, you're probably picking up some speed by not having to sort out those dynamics. And on topic with the thread I present to a dirty T running errands..
