PDK Failure & Outcome Story

Although my GTS does not have a PDK, this was a fun read though.
I also have to wonder why Porsche does not offer extended warranties as the third party companies do. Makes you wonder.

I can't remember the details, but I had an option to purchase additional Porsche warranty, either at the time of sale or within a month...something like that. With only 101 miles on the odometer and no over-revs in all 6 ranges, I was buying a new car.

NEVER AGAIN
See my post from a while back. Just out of warranty and $26k later PCNA threw this 30+ year Porsche owner under the bus. I have now been vaccinated against the Porsche Pox and will never suffer from that disease again. Liberating.

Sad to see that Porsche is in the same league as so many of the manufacturers. I won't say Japanese manufacturers are any better, its just that I've never had any issues with them since I first owned them in 1983 as my daily drivers. And I've owned some ultra long term...15+ years.

Sorry to hear about your experience - just to be clear, in the post you reference you say “PCNA stood firm at covering 65%” but here you mention “$26k later PCNA threw this 30+ year Porsche owner under the bus”. Does that mean even AFTER they covered 65% of the cost you still shelled out $26k?!? How could that be?!?

Thanks for the information. I found the TSB. Maybe I'll mention this to my SA next time and see if I can proactively retrofit:
NHTSA ID: 10055043
TSB ID: TI-85-13
Porsche: a new type of vent line must be used, if pdk transmission needs replacing, and installed prior to new pdk transmission. model 2013-2014 911 carrera, 911 carrera s, 911 carrera 4, 911 carrera 4s.

I'm also looking for a 991.1 model. Has anyone seen this issue affect 2012 models?

The difference is, a Lexus owner out of warranty will not have sleepless nights, a Porsche owner on the other hand will. Anyone who really thinks a Porsche is "tied" with Lexus for reliability hasn't owned very many Porsches out of warranty.
$25k for a transmission is beyond absurd. There's a reason Porsche is the most profitable car company in the world, case in point.
