Sorry to revive an old thread, but this was the closest thing I could find to what I'm experiencing in my 991.1S PDK.

Except that my smell / scent is noticeable within the car, not outside of it. (Well it might be noticeable outside too, but I haven't paid that much attention.)

The smell overall is pretty strong and has a hint of that unique transmission oil smell. If you've ever changed manual transmission fluid, I'm sure you know that smell! I had the dealer check the car out for leaks and they didn't find anything.

This is most noticeable after either hard driving in Sport or Sport Plus mode or also prolonged periods of freeway driving (70-80 miles), but it's most noticeable in the harder driving situations.

Are you guys also smelling it INSIDE the car?

Never with the windows up. Sometimes with the windows down at a stop light or in very slow stop/go like traffic.

Its the perfume of FUN.

Maybe the previous owner liked it so much he pumped it into the ventilation system for even more FUN smell!

Old 981 PDK had that smell after a hard run and I personally found it intoxicating. I got pulled over once when driving really fast in CT, and the cop asked me what the smell was LMAO. Should’ve said something clever instead of “I have no idea, officer.”

ah yes the 991.1 smell, you dont get that in a 991.2 from the rear because of the liners in the fenders.

Oh interesting that the 991.2 lost this "feature" of smell. So you experienced it even in the car with the windows up?

Sounds like the sound symposer is also a small symposer.

Just would smell with "windows down" after a very hard run.
No more burnt rubber on the exhaust system smell... no road debris getting kicked up on it.. blocked by liners which cover the turbo exhaust...

Totally normal IMO. now if you smell lots of clutch all the time you either need to learn manual better or your PDK might have a problem.

I agree with the others that you just aren't used to the hot Porsche engine smell likely getting a significant contribution from tire bits thrown up on the exhaust. On a 991.1 the side exhaust cans are well-exposed and pick up and cook bits of rubber. Very common when driven really hard.
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the Porsche community although I have been a fan since I was a young kid. I recently purchased a CPO 2014 C4S. I drove it home from the dealer for a total of 438 miles. After the last portion of the drive I did notice a smell of what I thought could have been like a burning clutch. I was about to go to a dealer and get it checked. As I am reading all the post this smell could be normal. No lights indicating any issues and it’s my second day owning the car. But one thing is for sure, I had the biggest grin on my face driving home and knowing that I finally have one after all these years. Please let me know if you have any thoughts about the smell. Thank you all

@P51302S Yup, so basically small tire rubber fragments / dust hit the hot exhaust just behind the rear wheels on the earlier 991.1 that doesn't have fender liners. This seems to be the cause of the smell.

I just call it the smell of speed.

Thank you! It took me about three months of long online search and finally found one here in California that met the color and trim that I was looking for. The plan is to enjoy the car take good care of it and own it for good. 😎

I just need to make sure I saved up for the upkeep of the car. After all this is my pre-retirement gift to myself.
