Besides lights, the interior finishes and colors make a big difference. Paint the walls and ceiling white (and finish the bare studs with drywall if necessary). Paint the floor light gray or seal light colored concrete.

I do a bit of detailing as well. I painted my garage ceilings flat white and the walls a light flat gray and installed VCT tiles on the floor. I add lighting to the ceilings and walls. I also have a 2 car garage and added four 48" led lights to each bay. On the walls I added three 48" LED lights as well. I don't currently have pictures of the actual ceiling lights to but here are some pictures to show brightness along with links to my lights.

Ceiling lights (I have 8 total)

I'll add my recommendation for Big *** Lights. I have four of them in my three-car garage--they are BRIGHT!

Wish my agate looked that good! I've had no longer with my Porter Cable and many combinations of pads and compounds (hopefully going for a professional correction and ceramic coating within the next six months). Nice lighting setup too.

Helpful thread, luckily with a tiny bit of 991 content to keep the mods from moving it for a while.
Time for me to check out the LED lighting to replace my buzzing florescents, thanks all.

I've added some T10 LED strips right on top of the cars. It was less than $250 for a lot of brightness!

I went with outlets and hanging fixtures as well. It allows you to plug in an extension cord or extra light, as well as turn on or off light (string on fixture switch doubles as a parking depth guide) in a section of the garage you're not using at the time. 28x32' garage, 6 standard outlets for the fixtures wired to the light switch plus two more, separate switch, over the bench.
I've converted a few of the Florescents to LEDs but it's not quite the same lighting effect, more directional, than a conventional tube.
