Default About ready to pull the trigger on new 2017

Hi, first post...long time reader!

i have found a new 2017 cab 4s. Manual, bose and black painted cookie cutter wheels. White, black top and leather.

The msrp is $130k and they immediately gave me 20k off. My concern is that, why has this car not sold in two years of sitting on the lot? What is wrong with this build? Am I going to have a rough time when I want to sell it? Does the price sound inline?

i have been a bmw guy for years and am wanting my first Porsche.

thanks for any help and advice!

No worries. You should at least get 20-25% off msrp. Has the warranty been punched? I would make sure of a complete oil change and double check the tires for rot/ unevenness due to sitting.

How many miles does it have on it? Post that VIN, and we can pull up the build sheet.

I see that the dealers are offering 15% off and 1.5% financing now on the websites. That is essentially the 20K discount that they offered to me.
Back to my original question though...why has this car never sold in 2 years on the lot? is it a undesirable build?

Um. good question. Doesn’t seem all that undesirable. Although I’m more of a PDK and leather guy.

I need to find a new dealer. 2018 stamped a year ago with 8k miles. 4% off telling me that's a great price.

I'm looking for a manual too and finding stock is fairly hard. for a 4s that's specced pretty bare bones, partial leather and 4 ways, no dimming mirrors or climate control or heated seats. I suppose not necessary but in a 130k convertible I'd want.

One thing to note is it was manufactured 17 months ago, so tack on shipping time from Germany and it has been on the lot a little less time than that. It is a fairly basic build except from the premium wheels. Often in a S'4S people would have been looking for the Sport Package, leather seating, and/or the premium package or premium package plus.

I don't think there is anything wrong with any of the selections I see (other than I prefer the black dials), it is just a fairly basic version of a fairly premium model.

No weird or crazy colour combo, not many options but some like that.

You will quickly learn, the desirability of build is very individual. If you like it, that’s all that matters. In your particular case you are also not taking the big immediate depreciation hit you would if you factory ordered which covers you somewhat when you sell.

In the end I don’t build/buy cars for the next person, I do it for myself and enjoy them for what they are.

No kidding! Porsche North Houston made me a much better deal on a nicely-outfitted 5 month old 2017 C2S with 975 miles on the clock. A lot of us here have been happy customers of theirs.

Some of it could be psychological. Once a car has been sitting around a lot of buyers tend to overlook it. With the 2019 models out most buyers would consider it a 2 year old car already. A similar thing happened at my local BMW dealer. They had a 2016 M6 with the comp package sit on property for about 2 years. The longer it sat the harder it was to sell. At one point they offered it to me with about a 40% discount. I passed due to no manual but they sold it about 2 months later for approximately the same price. That was a big hit but the buyer got a 2 year old car with a brand new warranty. I wouldn't worry about a thing if I was in his position. Same goes for this car. If you like it and can get a deal that is very appealing to you then there is no reason to look elsewhere. You still have a brand new car with a brand new warranty. And with Porsche you will take a small depreciation hit but it shouldnt be enough to kill the deal. Good luck!!

BTW OP, I changed my avatar to show those same wheels. They are a really nicely finished gloss-black wheel and the deep dish effect on them is really nice, but plan on having to clean the brake dust off of them frequently... if clean-looking wheels are a thing for you. I end up washing the car at least twice as often as I would otherwise just to keep the wheels looking clean.

Also FYI, those wheels in black added $3K to the price on that car and are a Porsche "Exclusive" option.
