Default GIAC VS COBB on 991.2

Interested which has the more aggressive tune for a 991.2 GTS. I've seen a lot of COBB threads but not many GIAC. My local tuner prefers GIAC

If your local tuner prefers GIAC then my guess is that he isnt authorized to sell COBB.

Nothing better about the GIAC tune over COBB.

I have installed Cobb AP twice on 2 different Pcars. Have it installed on my TTS . I believe that it is the best out there right now and they are very customer oriented. I have talked with them several times during my 1st install process, very helpful and know what they are doing. No disrespect to GIAC at all.

The basic cobb tune may not be more aggresive than the GIAC tune, but it is far more flexible given you can quickly change tunes as you add mods (once they release the stage 2 tunes)
and you could get a very aggressive Pro tune for your car if needed.

How does Cobb work, you have to send them the ECU?

Yes, but once they "crack" it and you reinstall it, you can change tunes in roughly 2 minutes with their AP controller which plugs into the OBD outlet in your car.
You can even un-install it and re install it if needed.

That is the real beauty of the Cobb including it is a great tune. I uninstall when I go in for service and reinstall once back home. Great set up.

Can a P dealer tell if the car’s been tuned after you’ve gone back to OEM tune?

As stated above, yes. But its one of the consequences of tuning, does not mean your warranty is gone. you have to have a problem caused by the tune.

The Porsche dealership in Austin actually promotes and sells the GIAC tune for both new and used cars. How they deal with warranty issues on the engines isn't clear to me, but if asked I'd guess they'd have an answer. I've opted not to roll that set of dice so I haven't asked.

Porsche, not the dealer makes the call on paying for warranty work, but they arent going to get involved unles it is a big ticket item ( or something they want to track).
So if your transmision goes, porsche will investigate. If your water pump is leaking, probably no problem.

Un-installing is good, as the dealer could update the software and overwrite the tune removing it. After an update, you can re-install over the updated software.
With the GIAC, better not get a software update by Porsche ( or your going to have to remove your ECU and send it in again to get the tune back).
Now if your dealer is your GIAC installer, they would still have to send the ECU to GIAC to get it fixed ( I believe)..

after reading the Warranty pamphlet provided with my car, anything installed by dealer is warranties by Porsche North America. Recommend you read and ask questions before you decide.
