Do you have the reg. or statute handy? In California, the code requires an "amber side-marker lamp". It doesn't say the lens cover itself has to be amber, just the lamp.

You just bought a 100K car...... I think you can spend $150 without any issues.

Legal in Virginia. Clear is allowed as long as the bulb is amber.

As I was about to get in my car and drive off of the lot, my salesman ran up and threw clear side markers on for free. When I went in to get my windows tinted......that was free too.

So, it depends on your salesperson. Mine was incredible. I will certainly be buying from him again.

What you are saying is correct regarding US Federal requirements. In PA the annual "safety inspection" requires amber front side reflectors. So, technically I could install clear side markers, paste on some amber reflectors and I'd be good to go. From experience, most PA inspection stations ignore this requirement. The reason I go back to the dealer is that they'll do the state inspection for free - a $35 value. So, when I go in for my annual service I get my free state inspection.

I am debating whether the clear or smoked will look better with Miami Blue (dealer will give me the former) but I cannot find the smoked - are they a Porsche part or after market?

I have clear side markers but don't particularly care for the red bulb inside. Can I just switch the red bulb to LED bulbs and if yes, anybody know the correct make to fit the slot ? Also, will it trip a diagnostic light for the LED on a 997.2 ?

Devils advocate:

After finalizing all of the major stuff (money & transport), I broached the side marker subject. Half way through my sentence the SA said - ‘I’ve already put the LEDs on the car for you’. It was one of the last little pieces that made me happy with the whole transaction. The last piece was hearing the GTS start up inside the enclosed trailer, when the car arrived. Big smile.
