Default Jacking a 991

I want to jack up the rear of my 911 and have both rear wheels off the ground. I think I saw someone hear that put a length of 2x4 under the oil pan and jacked up using his floor jack. True or fiction?? Is it possible to jack the front in the same manor??

I wouldn't do that, especially if it's a 991.2, but I suspect you could get away with it. I would think driving up a couple of ramps would be safer and smarter.

I use four Jackpoint jack stands. They are easy to use and very stable.

Good info guys, thanks. We're talking a 2013 3.8 here (not that makes any difference)

Instead of destroying the oil pan, why wouldn’t you use the rear crossmember that’s 1” forward of the oil pan?

Jacking up either front corner lifts the opposite corner as well. The car is so stiff you can get three wheels of the ground jacking either rear corner.

Have you considered RennStands or JackPoints?

THIS

Jack up front, the rear will raise enough to get a jackstand under the proper jacking point.

Also, always use a proper jack pad. No more used hockey pucks. I use one from Rennline.

Huh? Mine doesn't do this.

The reason I bought JackPoint stands was because I had no safe way of rotating the rear wheels on mine. All I could do was lift it with two jacks.

When I jack up one side of the front, the whole front comes up. If I jack up from back, the side comes up. There's no way for me to get the back up without jacking from the back.

All that said... I don't really know why I'd need two sets of JackPoint stands. I only need them under the back.

Rhino ramps for oil changes. Get the proper pucks that fit into the jack points for rotating tires or anything where you want to take off wheels. they are pretty cheap and safe as they wont slip off the jack stands or rotate.

Get 2 jacks. You really need 2 jacks for any work on your car. Even changing tires are a snap with 2 jacks.

Yes it makes a difference since the newer cars oil pan is plastic.....and no it doesn't make a difference because I would not do it. With my air cooled Porsche you can put the jack where the transmission is at one point and lift the whole rear. These cars are not as light as an 83 911 so I would not do that. Use the jack points ...on each side rather than the 2x4. People do a lot of things they shouldn't... why take unnecessary risks. I would never use an oil pan as lift point.

So many different ways and "specialized tools".
Jack from the rear side lift point, slide a jack stand under the rear cross member. Lower the car and do the same on the other side.
Lifting a car is intimidating the first couple of times. Once you've done it enough you'll realize how strong these car are.

You can also lift from the cross member and put the stand under the side of the car. Depends on what you need access to.
