As soon as I can find that Dey Trade pigtail I have I'll try and figure it out.

What a bummer - I have all of the supplies to swap the light bar in for the black grill on my 991.1 GTS. I have been trying to find a way to do this mod for years now. It's awesome to see some of you guys have made the switch on your 991.2. It looks awesome! It does seem odd that it would work in the 991.2 and not 991.1... Fingers crossed one of you wizards figures it out for the 991.1!

Did you ever see a schematic? Does the center wire to either outside close the circuit?

Did not find a schematic on it unfortunately but the deytrade connector is the same one used in the 991.2.

Looking at the wiring harness for a 4/4S (which I am told is the same for a 991.1 and 991.2) the middle light is powered from pin 1 (brown) and pins 9 and 10 (blue/black black/blue) The brown is the center wire and the others are the outer wire. It is a different circuit that the tag lights, but it may have the same voltage/amps. I'll get it figured out.

Thanks-that confirms my suspicions that the wiring is the same as the 991.2....it must be a different voltage for the 991.1 then.

I have a small 12v battery on my workbench and I get get the light to flicker with the center to - and either outer to +. Not light up, just flicker. I am not sure how many amps that battery puts out, but the voltage is 12 +/-

I'll talk my 18 y/o into helping me taking the bumper off (someone has to pull the torx screws out from the wheel wells and underside) and then I can look at the other side of that harness. I bet that pins 1 9 and 10 are wired and I can check the output

I got mine to flicker as well-that’s how I know the light bar I have is good.

Confirmed that the light bar operates with 5v.

Thank you everyone that has come up with the information to make this work. I went to order from Dey Trading but they are not shipping to USA right now.

I found the center light connector on ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...73703&_sacat=0

Im picking up my GTS tomorrow. This is going to be the first mod. Love the look! Will keep everyone posted!

Also ordering from this site, little cheaper than Suncoast

Now that i know the light operates at 5v, I need to take a look at the supply side of the 991.1 wire harness. If the center light pins are there and output to 5v, it will work. If not, it will still be possible to do it. Just have to figure out how to wire in a voltage regulator. If only Radio Shack hadn't gone under, I could have run out now and grabbed one.

Something like this -
Amazon Amazon

I have to check what the amps though

You could always wire in a 12v cigarette lighter charger that outputs 5v. Not the cleanest but if you take it apart and just use the electronics it may work well and then heatshrink the assembly afterward.

Yes. I actually think I have one laying around that I could use. What I will probably do is wait and see if the other side of the harness has the wiring for pins 9 and 10. If so, then it should work as long as you use the 4/4S harness in the bumper. If it doesn't then plan B is to install the voltage regulator (I ordered one from Amazon) and tapping into a 12v source from the taillight or tag lights. Now that I know how to make it work it is just a matter of figuring out the cleanest way to do it.

From what I have read on this thread, the cars don’t come with the pigtail unless it had the center lamp from the factory...you would have to retrofit the entire rear bumper harness which may be pretty costly.
