Default First Porsche for BMW guy: 991.1 GTS AeroCup 7MT Lava Orange

Avid car enthusiast and BMW racer buys first Porsche. I wanted one of these SOOO bad back in 2015-2016, but couldn't swing it back then. "Settled" on a 2015 M4, which is a great car in its own right, but I always kept my eyes open for the build I did probably 100 times on the Porsche Configurator: 3.8 NA GTS (was bummed when they went to turbos in 2017), 7MT, aerocup kit, lava orange. When "my rare build" popped up on the used market at a local Porsche dealer I had to go check it out. It had been awhile since I sat in a Porsche, so I wasn't sure if I would even fit in one (I'm 6'4" 290lbs), especially with a helmet on. Much to my surprise, I actually had more room in it than I do in the M4. Plenty of room for my helmet. Yes, I brought my nasty, sweat stained helmet and neck device to the Porsche dealership to make sure.

The test drive was pretty good. It was funny, because at 3000-4000rpm I was waiting for something to happen, being used to the M4's turbos, and of course nothing does in the NA GTS. You have to really get that flat 6 lathered up to 5500rpm+ for it to wake up, and when it does its delightful (reminded more of my E36 race car that way). The exhaust note is intoxicating. Even though the GTS felt "slower" than the M4 you could really tell how tight and special the car was. I was hooked, I had to have it like a junky needs another hit of crack. The dealership basically did the Ned Beatty on me no matter how hard I tried to get them to come to my numbers. In the end I gave up my BMW M4, my RAM 2500, my '59 Gibson Les Paul, my wife, my dog, my dirt bike, my AK-47, one kid, and all my shoes and glasses to get the 2016 991 GTS. (ok, I'm kidding about everything except my M4 and truck)

A beauty. Glad the dream finally delivered. Welcome!! Mileage? Build? Looks like Porsche of Chandler?

Manual and Aerokit Cup a rare combo.

Welcome to the NA GTS club. Yes you have to wring it out but I'd never trade that for a turbo.
Funny since I just went the other way and got an E92 M3 Limerock Edition, in addition to keeping the 991.1 GTS.

Congrats and enjoy her in good health. Love orange cars

Congratulations super looking car and colour.

I also went from a BMW M4 to a Carrera 991 GTS

As you say the Porsche felt slower but in the corners there was no comparison along with the grip levels and traction of the Porsche being so much more accomplished than the BMW

OP I've seen your car in person. Absolutely stunning build! I too have a Lava Orange GTS (.2) and the color is intoxicating under different lighting. Always staring at it trying to catch that new shade.

Your line about the negotiations made me laugh.. I've had my battle with Chandler Porsche. They don't crack.... Service department is on point!

Welcome to the club!

Congrats on your new car. Fantastic color and specs. I also had to buy one when 991 gts came out. My last Porsche was 993 I sold in 2001! Finally Porsche interest me again with 991 gts and I'm glad I got one. And do not ever sell 59 Les Paul. 59 is one of my favorites due to Gary Moore.

Great looking car. You might want to consider a tune. The COBB tune really helped my car in the 4-5K range. I just registered my AR15 so I can't ever sell or trade it!

I have been driving M3s since 2009 and in 2015 I traded in my M4 for a 2015 991 GTS PDK. Also, I have driven both at the Homestead Speedway. The GTS has better brakes, better transmission and better suspension. IMHO the M cars have better stability at high speed and under braking. In a way the P car keeps me more involved and more concentrated. That’s the difference between a sport tourer and a true sport car. Great choice and color! I am keeping mine forever!

Congratulations,beautiful car indeed.
Just bought Agate grey 2015 991.1 GTS with Aerocup kit and PDK a month ago, also my first Porsche. Extremely happy with the car and enjoy driving it immensely. Enjoy your new toy.
