GLASS SUNROOF

GLASS SUNROOF
This is the ONLY option on my '16 GTS that I regret ordering . The sunshade does practically nothing in cutting down the heat from the sun and it gets bloody HOT inside. Last summer I had the inside of the glass sunroof covered in the most heat resistant and darkest tint film that I could find. It has helped but I will NEVER order this option in any car again. Unfortunately my 3 series BMW Sportwagon came standard with a DOUBLE glass Panoramic sunroof which I have had coated with heat resistant and dark tint film as well. Thought I would pass these comments on to anyone who is contemplating this option..........Air conditioning DOES help but still I would prefer a standard metal sunroof or no sunroof at all.

Of course, the flip side is, I absolutely LOVE mine. Can’t imagine not having it. Despite the Texas sun not being something you can ignore.
But, my last Pcar was a Cab.....so eye of the beholder, and all that.

Depends where you live. I have the glass sunroof in my C4S and I love it. I keep it open whenever I can as long as it not too cold. It never gets too hot but for a few weeks in the summer. And the glass lets light into the cabin. I am very happy with this compromise especially because I sold my Boxster for the 911. But then, I live in NH.

I ordered a steel roof on my current '18 991 GTS and couldn't be happier.

I have this option on my 2014 911/50 in southern Alabama and don't have an issue with it.
You may have already thought of the following, but it helps on my car to drastically cut the heat down:
1. Consistently use a custom heatshield when parking outside. Even for running into a convenience store for a few minutes. I have used HeatShieldStore.com for more than a decade and they are the best. Keeping the sum out of the front goes a long way. I work on a military base with lots of new American muscle cars and I don't think I've seen a single one use these, especially the all-black cars. Heat kills your interior, and these shields keep the heat way down along with cracking the windows slightly.
2. If there isn't a threat of rain, when parking the car, I hit the middle button on the glass top to pop open the back half and then fully close the sunshade. This allows the hot air out of the car while parking but prevents bugs from getting in. Crack both windows just about 1/2 inch when parking.
3. Set your A/C to strong center vents in the PCM.
I follow these tips in 90+ degree weather and high humidity and haven't ever noticed the issue of the sun shade not doing its job.
Good luck!

Ditto,...will never order/buy a car without one. Very personal choice here.

No sunroof=lighter weight=lower center of gravity=better handling=faster=sports car. To each his own, but as appealing as the thought of a sunroof is, I always find that the drawbacks, including hot interior and everything else I said above, far outweigh the fleeting benefit of having some extra light and air in the interior.
Plus you get to put the $1500 to $2000 toward performance enhancing drugs, I mean options.

I ended up with a glass roof on a used 911, it would have been an absolute NO on a build. And there's no useless heavy roof on my Macan, swaying around up there.
I have 3M crystalline all round but only the standard tint on the roof, may have to rethink that as my first summer with the car approaches.
