Engine Lid won't open

Engine Lid won't open
Did an oil change on my 991 and while removing the inlet ducts, I pulled out the cable that actuators the latch. I put the ball end in the fork and reattached the plastic clip that holds the cable in place. Completed the oil change and after I closed the engine lid, it wouldn't open! I looked for an emergency release cable under the left and right side taillights, but was not in either place. Looked all around from underneath the car and couldn't find it there either. I also tried to get access to the screws that hold the hook onto the engine lid, but there was not enough space to get access. I read a couple of threads on the topic and someone mentioned the latch can be opened with a screw driver. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get the lock to open?

On 991.1 turbo the cable is on the right ( passenger) side of lid. When you had the lid up there was a black cover wth the mobile one sticker on it. The cable with a ball end is under that. Therefore you have to tape up the area to the right of the lid, pry up the lid with something plastic then lift the black cover a little and you will see the ball on the end of the cable. I used a wire on strong string with a loop and hooked over the ball then cinched the string and pulled.
Unfortunately my cable got disconnected from the latch so I’m screwed and that method will not release the lid.

I've read a few posts where the latch cable got detached from doing an oil change. Have done a few oil changes and this has never happened to me, but beginning to think this is not an uncommon problem. Anyway to ensure this cannot accidently happen, maybe putting tape on the actuator while doing an oil change so can't be dislodged?

Yes, $450.00 for dealer to fish and release the latch to the engine lid. They had to go in from the lid vent. Cable became disconnected upon oil filter change.,my fault, no warranty. Dumb design. The cable should not come off the latch unless you unbolt it, however this one has a snap on plastic catch, weird. 2015 Turbo S.

My cost to repair the engine lid release was $200. Same issue as Amrdg98 - lost points with my wife! Technician said he used a long pick and an airbag to open the latch. Hard to believe the system is so flimsy.

Just does not make sense that they would have the cable release hidden under the engine lid. But then again, maybe it does make sense, so they can charge you insane amounts of money to open the lid for you. Anybody come up with a clever way to route that cable so that it can actually be usable by someone who can't get the lid opened because of a faulty actuator?
