Default newby question on exhaust sound

I have a S without PSE (for now)

I noticed that the exhaust got this loud cracking sound when you let off the gas after revving. I am guess is normal 911 exhaust and what i am hearing is the backfire sound. (esp after listening to sound sound clips on youtube)

If that's how is suppose to sound on the 911....feel free to LAUGH!!! :-D

Are you in Sport mode when you observe this? Yes, completely normal. . .although it's controlled by the ECU.

Yup that sound is right. Lots of crackling and popping when PSE engaged. On my 2017 they actually spray a little fuel into the manifold to create this sound is what I read.

It is called overrun in this case and yes it is an engineered-in "feature" that is either loved or not. Even without PSE you can hear it if the car has Sport Chrono and is in one of the sport modes (but not Sport Plus in a 991.2).

991.1 or 991.2. For the latter without PSE, the backfiring is not that noticeable to me even in sport mode. PSE makes it very pronounced in sport.

That crackling sound still puts a grin on my face over a year into ownership, PSE + Sport Plus + hot exhaust = Gunshots.

Lol normal it is thanks!

no i am not in sport mode. I notice this when i am sitting still and revving the engine. When the rpm drops to about 2k i can hear the chatter/cracking sound. I do have SC in a pdk

just want to make sure everything is good before installing in the PSE.

That brings me to the next question. Why are you sitting still revving the engine? lol

I heard the cracking/popping noise while driving and I was trying to pin point it. I was able to replicate it by idle revving, when i let off that's when i can hear it
