Default New 991.2 owner coming from 997.2

Howdy folks,

I've been lurking here for a while, but now I've reason to stay a while. I traded my lovely 2009 C4S in on a 2017 Graphite blue base Carrera on Thursday. The car is in Livermore, CA, so it has to be shipped to me in Portland. I love the 997 but was ready to try something new, and the base 991.2 is excellent bang for the buck. This particular model was used, and spec'd the way I'd build it. It has alcantara wheel, gear lever, seat inserts with the adaptive sports seats, 20" wheels, and a few other non-essential bits.

It's a pretty basic and lightweight (with the exception of the heavy glass roof, which I do love) model, and I really enjoyed my test drive. The PO was obviously a car guy as the side markers are already clear!

Anyway, thought I'd share some of the photos and I can't wait to get the car!

May I ask why did you go with one w/o AWD?

Sure thing...I've had two AWD 911's, a Targa 4 before this C4S, and I wanted to try a RWD one. Variety is the spice of life!

Congrats! Just looked up car on Livermore site. A great basic spec and seemingly advertised at an attractive ask price. You did well!

Congrats, great color and you will love the base. I can tell you that for public roads, you will be thankful you bought the "slow" car, and good going for finding a manual. The engine is so flexible, most of the time you've got plenty of power in the higher gears that shifting is completely optional.

I hope you did well on the sale of the 997, they are still fantastic and in high demand.

What a terrrible mistake! You traded in a NA flat six for a turbo six?? Shame on you.
But the new car does look very nice. Enjoy!

I think you'll like it a lot. A very serviceable DD 911. I've owned a lot of them and the 991.2 is a great car. I understand the criticisms but the experience behind the wheel is damn good.

Congrats. Previous 997 GT3 owner myself. Was a 991.2 naysayer until I actually drove one. Recently sold the GT3 which I loved and purchased a 7MT 4S 991.2. Will always miss the sound and analog feel of the 997 but the 991.2s are just so capable I forget about the rest. Still cant believe I not only went to a 991 but a .2 and 4 at that but here we are. Change is fun and Porsche did a great job with the 9A2 in my opinion. Enjoy it!

Thank you! I have to ship it to avoid paying sales tax in CA, as I'm a OR resident. Otherwise it would have been an awesome road trip back home!

Thank you! This one was spec'd exactly how I'd built these on the configurator once the 991.2 was launched. I think these motors are slightly underrated and even still 370hp is plenty on the road!

Lol, I know, what will the pursuits say! After I drove the new motor I wasn't really that concerned about making the jump. I'll miss that old 'big block' 3.8 though, it's a fine motor indeed! One of my criticisms on the 997.2 at least is that the DFI motor just didn't sound that wonderful stock. I didn't bother with any mods I know the Fisters and Sharkwerks X pipe wake it up a bit.

That is how I felt after I drove it - very agile, tight chassis and a lot of fun!

I love this new motor, and the external turbo noises sound great too. I love how you can shut them out by closing the windows and sunroof, and just have that traditional 911 noise from the cabin.

Agreed - I wondered if I'd pull it off, the 997 is such a fun car. I still think the 997 is more of an 'event' in the context of feedback and its emotion, but the overall competence of the 991.2 blew me away. Coupled with the aesthetic and this one was spec'd more in my favor than my 997 (heated adaptive seats + a manual!) so I had to give change a go. I just can't wait to get it now!!
