Default Oil level function not working after oil change

Just did my first oil change on a new to me, 2014 991.1 Carrera S. After completing the oil change and refilling with 7 quarts of oil, the oil level function
in the display gives me a yellow read out of oil level indication not available at this time ( or something to that effect). This is after idling the car for about a minute or two. The
indicator did work prior to the oil change. Any thoughts? Thanks for any direction on this.

It takes forever. I think you have to drive it to full engine and oil temp. It's really not useful for slowly filling up after an oil change. Precision fill required.

IIRC it takes pretty near the whole 8 quarts, I usually do like 7.5 which takes it to about halfway so I can warm up and get a reading and bump it up to the top... small amounts at a time don’t overfill!

YMMV based on how much you got drained out of course so don’t blame me if you blow it up!

OK then......thank you. I'll warm it up a bit and hopefully the reading will come back to life.
Appreciate your responses!

It's not enough to warm it...you have to drive it 8 to 10 miles. If you open the service hood to put more oil...it may reset itself and you have to drive it again. Never understood the logic behind that.

On my 981 Cayman, I have to warm the engine to operating temperature (water temp 194 F), turn off the engine, wait about a minute, then read the oil level. You don’t have to actually drive, but it takes a bit of engine reving to get the temperature up where it needs to be.

I drove it and got both the water temp and oil temp up to operating temperature (about 10 miles), and the reading magically appeared......
Appreciate all your feedback on this. Now I need to get past the issues with icarsoft not being able to reset the service interval......but at least
the oil level is fine and working. More to learn I'm sure......

Hmm, I thought others had reported success with icarsoft reseting the service interval on 991. Have you updated the icarsoft software?

Now I know why this little guy is so angry.

But seriously I miss the dip stick even though some days there's one behind the wheel.

I can't comment on icarsoft as yet, as I'm working to locate a Windows based system to execute an update on their device. Hopefully it will work out.

I have a 2014 991.1 and had no issues using the iCarsoft POR-II to reset mine, and I didn't need to update any software for the iCarsoft unit. It's not the most intuitive menu to get to, but it's there. Check youtube for videos if you have trouble figuring it out. Unless you purchased the i960, which I don't think works on the 991 (and corresponding generations of Caymans, Boxters, etc.)

While I did get the date reset on the service interval, whenever I start the car is displays "change oil now".......so it appears I'm close but not finished with the reset. Looked thru youtube without success on resolving my specific issue.

There is a different submenu for resetting service interval reminders (10k, 20k, 40k, and "All"). It's a separate from the submenu for inputting the mileage when different service is conducted. I'll hook mine up when I get home tonight and write down a step-by-step and get back to you.

Ah, I didn't see the submenu (or probably didn't look for it)......will have to rescan and see about that. Thanks for the pointer.
