1. In the 991 instructions there was one hole for releasing the airbag and on the 991.2 it has two holes, at 8 and 4 o'clock which both need to be depressed to release the airbag.
2. Once the wheel is off you have to pull the rear cover and trim, and then find the 4 screws that hold the front cover on.
3. Once those parts are off, you can find the screws that hold the chrome parts in place.
All and all, an easy job, just take care and read below.
WARNING: As a firefighter I have been trained that airbags hold a captive discharge and that you should wait a period of time after pulling the battery negative side to allow the capacitors to drain. Waiting 30 minutes would be prudent. REMEMBER always treat airbags as if they are armed. They can be very dangerous.

In my opinion, the 964 was a transition car. What bugged me the most about the 964 was the way the plastic panels were tacked on.
The 993 fixed all of that with a much more homogenized look. Where the 964 looked like its 911 predecessor with some plastic added front, sides, and rear (although, it really was a significant redesign), the 993 appeared like it was designed from the ground up to look like it did—much more refined.
Incidentally, everything the 964 did, the 993 did better. You got more power, better handling, and a better engine (CEL issues excluded).
The 996 suffered too much from Porsche's rebirth efforts to reduce build costs and make a striking styling statement that, in my opinion, failed. I think the proof of that was the 997, which ditched the 996 odd headlights and even attempted to capture the same sound of the 993 doors closing.
Again, the only redemption for the 996 is the GT3 engine (and Turbo versions), suspension, and chassis. Oh, and you can't see the headlamps while sitting in the car.
However, the 964 RS, like the GT cars to follow, was a driver focused car and that gives it a special place in the history of the 911.
Good luck with your project, by the way!

I had a local shop here near by done the steering wheel upgrade. I dont think the process is hard w/ the right tools, but definitely will require taking steering wheel (as seen in the previous picture) and taking the back of plastic piece to get access to the inner side of the 3 spoke trims. I got this done and really love the look with all black. more cohesive look.

And now with my full custom wheels. Augment was great to work with. I’m still working on finding the right stripes. Next up, matte black 911R style.

I was going to make some 20" Cup I wheels, but I was concerned that at that large size they would look too flowery, so I decided to base the wheels on the Lancia Stratos wheel. Also 5 spoke but more aggressive and yet still retro.
