Setting the record straight - the 911 T is a gift from Porsche

I have the base C2. Other than a slight interest in RWS, I can't really see the appeal of the T for myself. I don't want cloth seats and I ordered my car with the same 20" wheels. I see virtually no future enhanced market value for a used T over the base model. It's very clever marketing by Porsche, kudos to them. At least it's a step away from their "Indy Pace Car Editions" of recent years like the ridiculous Endurance edition or whatever they called it. Or the special editions offered in the U.K. to honor 3 classic 917 liveries.

[QUOTE=fueledbymetal;14879882]Of course it could be better, but a gift's a gift!
You have a positive attitude, that I'll give you. If it's a gift for you that is really all that counts.

I bet lsd/ptv, spasm, and rear axle steering will probably be options in the 992 base plus it will have a different tune for a slight bump in power. When and if that happens the T would be old news. I cant wait 2+ years for that car but i anticipate the T to turn into a toaster at some point. Its gonna be fun driving it until then. If it tanks in value im gonna start modding it and basically turn it into a gts

If this is the only year of the T, that will still make it special in its own way.
And I'm already anxious after waiting for 3 months. I will definitely NOT wait any longer for the 992 to arrive. And if the spy pics are any indication of what's coming, I'm even happier I was able to get a T while I could.

+1. I like the buttons. The 992 styling is also little audi for me. The norelco shifter on the 992 is making me want to get pdk in my T. Hasnt locked yet I have another 12 days. The pdk is awesome right now with 7 speeds and they FINALLY got the paddles and gear lever perfect with the +/- in the correct orientation. Why are they going to mess it up? It makes 0 sense.

The manual in the T, however, is sublime (after a few hundred miles) :-)
cheers!

All this talk about the gear shift. I've owned two S2000's... Nothing will ever feel like that shifter. Granted, I really find the 7 speed more than satisfying and I haven't even driven mine with my recently installed GT4 short shifter. I suspect it will be fantastic.
The T is a great package. Absolutely the car I would buy if buying new!

The continuing unknown is production numbers as the allocations seem to be few and far between. If the T is going to value crash because of the 992's than all Carrera styled cars will as well but if production stays as low as it appears could be a different story.

Many such choices already exist—though they are old cars. And while we can buy old cars, Porsche can't sell old cars.
Idea here was a modern—new—2500-lb Porsche with all the lessons learned in terms of materials and ways/means at 964 power levels. I think this would be very appealing. 987 and 981 2.7 come close to this, but are 200-500 pounds too heavy as their structure must be strong enough to also support the 997/991 Turbo. Would be fun to see a new sports car chassis built for 200-300 hp rather than 300-700.

They made them for 50+ years and still do. I have one and love it. The 3.0 in the T is one of the great Porsche engines full stop. Different, but one of the true high points.
Now, do I wish they had offered the T package on the 991.1? Sure. Would've been cool...

I kinda agree with you. Sometimes I feel the 6 speed is a little too close ratioed and you spend a lot time going through the gears. I think 5 speed is all you want with 5th geared for highway cruising. Makes me wonder who really needs 7 speed gearbox. Just an observation though because I never owned a 7 speed MT.
