Why? How should they be mounted?

Sensors need to be pointed perfectly straight ahead, not in or out, and not up or down. Ideally a few mm in front of grill/ bumper. From the pics it looks like both your sensors are pointed outward to follow the bumper's curvy shape.

Thanks. Makes sense. BTW does anyone have any thoughts on how many jammers I need in the front? My installer thinks 2 is sufficient while the folks at K40 recommend 3?

Depending on the jammer. ALP system recommends 3 for the 911 because it's really wide. They recommend placing sensors no more than 24" apart, and ideally at least 20" above ground. If you have a narrower car than 2 is sufficient.

Hi all,
I have been a proud user of Passport 9500ix for years. After years of loyal service, it started to bother me with false alarms from other vehicles.

So I have decided it is time to upgrade as the technology has improved. I moved to Uniden R3. Maaaaannnn, what a difference!!! R3 is excellent eliminating false alarms, and has much much longer range. Also it is configurable depending on which bands you want to filter out.

I couldn't be happier!

In my opinion, manufactures and installers having a difference of opinion on what works best is a bad sign. Make sure your installer really knows these systems – I can't stress enough how much the install methods affect the performance. As far as how many jammers, it does depend on the manufacturer. With Anti-Laser(ALP), three heads are required to defeat the latest RPR guns like dragon eye. one of the heads actually shuts down it's transmit section during a hit so that it can focus on reading exactly what the gun is emitting. The other two jammers remain active for defense. This could be how K40 is functioning as well. If you're dead set on the K40 system, I would go with what they recommend. I know most of the people that work for K40 and they are all very knowledgable about their product.

You guys are a bad influence. I just placed an order for an R3 to see what all the hype is about.

Thanks. That’s pretty much concors with what my installer initially said. However he was not so convinced that the new dragon eye was so widely used in my area(NY,NJ,CT, PA) to warrant the extra cost. The example you gave regarding the one head shutting down while the other two remains active is exactly what he said to me. Thanks again.

R3 is a great device, have one in my Rice Rocket. Only issue is no laser defense. But the R3 is inexpensive compared to an installed detector. If you live in an area where detectors/jammers are legal, I’d have an R3 and an ALP. Otherwise stealth is King! I live in a no detector state, and one day I’ll be busted for the R3. But in the meantime, I’ll drive on! The 911 is a different story altogether.....

I should have set up a commission rate or kick back with Uniden when I started this thread.
