Keep this in mind...radar helps but in VA/DC its the **** Gestapo gunning for you. I would live homeless in FL before I would live in that ****ball state. A FKN felony for speeding! Reckless is like 10 over, arrest at 20 over. I would be locked up with the key thrown away. What a joke.

I had a K40 W/laser on my 09 Targa. No tickets in 7 yrs. Was thinking about getting a new K40 360di with laser defuses on my new 911. Is it really better to go piece mail(separate RD,ALP etc) than a complete custom installed system?

From what I have read, using a laser jammer will alert the officer that you are interfering with speed enforcement. You have to deactivate your jammer and slow down but still, an angry and suspicious officer may pull you over if you are the only one on the road. In traffic, a radar/laser detector will give you warning if you are not the unlucky one being targeted.
Again from what I have read, a laser gun needs to be stationary which almost always means highway and not backroads with no shoulders. I see state troopers, mostly in the summers, either positioned in the left shoulder or right, aiming their laser guns at oncoming traffic. Usually they have one guy marking the cars and several others to pursue and issue citations. Have seen speed traps where mutliple cars have been pulled over.
The stretch of I-93 from Manchester to Concord NH is full of them. Worst stretch of highway to speed.
Highways in NH, especially I-89, there are plenty of places for troopers to hide (in the median) with their Ka radar on and out of sight. Not saying laser jammers are not useful. Just that they have their limitations. Perhaps others with experience can comment.

Just curious, where are you getting your information? Detector tests seem to have fallen by the wayside at the major magazines. And what is your poor customer service experience with Escort. I have two old 9500ix detectors and they don't need much int he way of service, but I'm also in the market to get something newer.
The positive comments about the R3 and its low price make it attractive, though I wish it had the directional detection. The Escort 360c looks interesting for that reason, but it's quite a bit more money.

R3 solid winner on most testing. Also Google Escort customer service and you will see several comments on poor after sale service. I have only had Escort for many years so I was disappointed when I saw where ranked.

Speed of light
If your detecting a laser it's too late. You want to block a laser or "lidar" not detect it. The reason this is legal is no one regulates low power lasers like the FCC regulates RF waves (which is why you can't scramble traditional RF radar). Almost all new radar guns produced in the last 5 years are LIDAR. I would guess in the southeast and mid Atlantic 60 percent plus of departments are now running LIDAR. Not sure about the rest of the country. Combining an older RF detector with WAZE can still be effective if you know you are in an area that is more remote and only runs RF traps.

Does the R3 detect laser? And I assume you like the R3. Why would I not be serious if I asked?

V1 escort/beltronics customer service
Valentine customer service is as bad as Escort/Beltronics who are the same company. I have a V1 that I used for rentals cars which is basically useless now because it need a software upgrade and they want the price of the detector to upgrade the software. I also called them in the first year of ownership due to the poor design of their suction cups and the reluctantly they sent me a couple of 5 cent replacements while grumbling that I was not doing it right.
Escort/Beltronics also sucks at customer service. I have owned 5 of their remote units including the LIDAR Jammers and as a company they are very hard to deal with. One of their engineers at one point claimed I stole something as the serial numbers weren't matching up on a failed unit. I offered that he should immediately dispatch the police to my house.
Much like Porsche they are both manufacturers who know they have the best product on the market so they can treat their customers like garbage without consequence.

I’m still a fan of the Valentine V1. I like a detector that detects the rear as well as front. The V1 has consistently been one of the top performers every year.

I owned 2 V1’s manufactured years apart. Pretty much the same. Competent detector with lots of false alarms. Requires a Bluetooth module to customize. Arrows are valuable.
i hardwired my R3to my 2018 Panamera today with the Blendmount. I’m far from a mechanic or electrical maven, but it’s not that tough to do. I’ve done it many times. Today, however, on the driver’s side fuse box, I tried every fuse and they were all powered with engine off. Found that weird.
Unlike my former Macans which have the fuse compartments on both sides of the dash, the Pany on passenger side is in footwell so I didn’t want to bother routing wire there. Not ideal but I’ll live with it.
someone commented they saved a few bucks by forgoing the GPS on the R3. One thing you are perhaps not realizing is what the main function of the GPS does. It allows for permanent marking of hundreds of stationary false alarms such as automatic doors on stores, those roadside things that read speed but don’t hand out tickets, etc.
we drove this past August from NY to Tennessee, KC, CO, Utah, and back in my Raptor. 6k miles in four weeks. Waze is sparsely used out there. Very little traffic. The R3 warned of Ka band numerous times literally miles in advance. Far further than the V1 ever could. Well worth it.

I am assuming you have the ALP system for jamming. Have you used it and run into any issues when used with the law? I am interested but not in aggravating them more than normal.

I am, I just got it installed in January and have been hit with laser a few times, and it has worked as advertised. To answer your question, I don't have it to go blazing around at triple digit speeds all the time. I'm more of the I get hit going 90, hit the brakes, and hopefully no harm no foul. Its kind of an extra insurance that is nice. Hopefully this is the answer you were looking for. Oh btw as far as aggravating them, as long as you don't blank them out going 140, don't have then sense to turn off after being hit once, doubt the officer gives much thought to it before hitting the next person.

i have looked at the ALP system. If you don't mind me asking what did the install cost you? Can you send me a pic of where you have your internal controls installed on your console? Thanks again I appreciate the info.

OP,
You should consider hardwiring both cars and using BlendMounts in each. Then you can move the detector easily between each car and not have to deal with suction cup mounts, coiled power cords running from the cigarette lighter to the detector, etc. The cost is pretty minimal to set up both of your cars. I've got my 991 and my wife's X5 set up this way, and when we use her car to take long road trips with the family I just pull my detector from my car and put it in hers. Only takes a couple of seconds to do the switch, and when not being used the "empty" BlendMount in her car is hardly noticeable (mirror tap cord just rests threaded through the bracket when no detector is present).

That is the plan. R3 gets here tomorrow and I will do the Blendmount asap.
