Default 991 targa 4s or GTS

I am hoping to test drive one on Tuesday but in asking people about them I have heard the whole gamut from "pig of a car" to the best porsche I have owned.
Thought I would ask for some direct feedback from owners or those who have used one a lot.
What do you like and dislike about the model?
My attraction is open air car with ease and still enough space to be somewhat practical for use several days a week. Not daily, just regular use driving for fun mostly.

TIA

I love my Targa 4S. I daily drive it year 'round, even through the CT winters. Its a 2014 and I purchased it CPO in Jan 2016 with 1800 miles on it. I have about 21K on it now, so I am putting on approx 10K a year. Have had 0 issues with it. I love it. Love the Targa look overall, top up or down. Love the open air feel with the top down, but still able to have a conversation with top down even at highway speeds. If I was to buy another 911, it would be a Targa again. No regrets whatsoever.

Wonder if the new 991.2 will be a bit quicker/snappier now that the turbos can be tuned. A targa up to 18psi with 500hp and similar torque would be the turbo targa beast I would find iconic.

I love my Targa as well. Had a 997.2 4S prior and a Boxster before that. I bought mine just about a year ago. 2015 with 600 miles and CPO of course. The Targa is basically my daily driver except when the roads are icy or snow covered, when I use my wife’s X3. The Targa is all around fantastic and having the top open with windows up and seat heat and interior heat on is very cozy in even quite cool weather. If you are not tracking and taking the car to “limit” and will enjoy the car on normal drives and some spirited once as well, it is a very fast and enjoyable sports car. I am sure the GTS has an edge tracking or racing, but in “normal” use, I doubt there is much difference in similiarly equiped specimens. Other than an ego boost.

I have a 4S with the Powerkit Package. I chose that over a GTS because I didn’t want to give up my guaranteed PTS/LTS slot for a “maybe” on a GTS.
The 450 HP is already far beyond my skill level. I do find the RAS very noticeable and a big plus IMO.
Any of these cars are far beyond the capabilities of all but a select group of drivers (of which I am not one).
You could always get a Targa 4 with an after warranty tune.
We drove it 1000+ miles to Asheville and back with the top up most of the way and it was tight and quiet. Nice combo.

Lol does the "pig of a car" guy have a Caterham as a daily driver maybe?

No Caterham, just a modified GT4!

I absolutely, positively adore my .1 GTS Targa. (And the other Pcar I own is a 993TT TechArt so the bar is high.) The Targa is the Swiss knife of GT cruisers. It excels at everything and looks sexy as hell.

Targa 4 > 4S > GTS
The 4 is rarest. The GTS you have to get Sport Chrono which is a downside.

I had '17 Targa 4S and now an '18 Targa 4 GTS. The one drawback is the way the Targa top is forever finding new ways to rattle. My '18 is much better in regards to that than my '17 was.

I find the Targa to be the best looking 991 out there. Wish I could have gotten it in RWD and with SPASM.

I wonder how top rattle will be once your '18 gets to the mileage of your '17. Rattle tends to increase with miles.

Why do you feel it is a downside?
