991.2 A Pillar Cover Removal
If you ever need to remove a 991.2 A Pillar, read below:
I am working on a project that requires some trim to be removed from my GTS. Some of the trim parts are tricky to remove, but so far I have not broken anything! The A Pillar cover was no fun until I finally figured out what to do. I believe the 991.1's are different and use 2 spring clips to secure it. Not so on the 991.2's. There is 1 spring clip and one ball and socket arrangement, pictures below. I read online that removal requires only a good tug and the A Pillar will pop right off. Not so! I was pulling like Tarzan would and it would not budge, so that told me to back off as there was some other mounting scheme for the .2's, and if I kept pulling something would break. I was able to pull away a little of the cover up at the headliner. Looking down the cover I noticed a clip like I had never seen before. So with a trim tool I pushed on it a little and it moved! So I kept pushing and then it hit something and stopped moving. The pictures show what is going on, but once the clip was moved the upper attachment was released and the top of the cover popped away when I pulled outward from the pillar. And since the lower attachment is a spring clip, the rest was easy. Hope this helps someone in the future. Cheers
Rod and ball post which retains the top of the A Pillar cover
Clip with slot is what I pushed in until it stopped moving
Clip in locked position. The small part of the clip toward the bottom of the picture in the racetrack hole is what holds the clip in position when it's locked.
Clip in open position

One last thing, when you reinstall the A pillar cover, put the clip in the locked position. You will feel the ball going over the first catch pretty easily. The locking catch is lots tighter and you'll need to give it more pressure before it snaps in place.

Thanks for posting, I will be doing something similar when I get my 991.2 GTS. Do you have any pictures that are not quite so close-up so it can put things in perspective for me? I want to run power for my dash cam, but I also want to be sure not to impede the operation of the airbag.

Very good to know. I'll be hooking up the hardwires for my radar detector and dash cam shortly. I thought the A pillar trim on this new car looked like it might be much tighter to the windshield, making it harder to slip the wires between it and the windshield like I've done before. This will solve it for me.
I would have probably broken something before figuring it out, so thanks for the post!

No, I didn't take any pictures I just popped the console (two steel spring clips on the front, credit card will do the job), and it was similar to my Cayman S where I found the switched circuit with a multimeter. Tapped the same connector, and voila. I can give you finer detail if you need it.

what radar mount is that? Also, looks like you modified it.

This is interesting and a helpful thread. I actually want to do the A-pillar alcantara upgrade (from standard vinyl), I'm debating if I can do it myself or if I need a dealer to do it
