Default 991.2 GTS Rear Bumper Removal

This weekend I would like to install a BMC air filter that I bought a few months ago. Back when I had a 991.1 C2S I removed the rear bumper for the same project and it was a relatively easy procedure.

Question is, is the removal of a .2 bumper essentially the same as a .1 bumper? Or is there anything I should be on the lookout for? Thank you

I never had a 991.1 but Akrapovic has a thorough instruction on this. You can take a look to see if there is any differences Akrapovic exhaust instructions

The instructions above are spot on.

Extra screws at the wheel well, better take the wheels off. Also, upon removal of the bumper there will be a LOT of plastic pneumatic tubing. Mess with one and you will get a yellow warning.

Took me a long time to get it out. Reason being, is that part of the maintenance is done removing the rear spoiler on the .2 versus the bumper on the .1.

When I got the bumper out and saw all that I still had to remove , I gave up. But that's me, you'll probably will have better luck. On the .1 I removed the entire muffler and replaced with an aftermarket system. Did the same for a 997.2. I guess I'm getting old and giving up sooner...

Keep us posted!

So, BMC filters.......going for more induction sound? Might need to do again at 20,000 vs the 40K on the OE filters.

Would the dealer do it for you at service intervals?

Be extremely careful installing the BMC filter on a .2 car. You have to remove a lot of stuff...like rear active spoiler mechanism and lots of tubes for the turbo system.

Honestly I was going to put a BMC filter in but after looking at all that needed to be removed and the chance of warning light it’s honestly not worth the hours of labor

I have used BMC or K&N filters on all of the cars and airplanes I have owned for the last 25 years. I like the concept, I know I won't gain HP, and with my deaf ears if there is any additional sound I certainly won't be able to hear it

Guys thanks for the help and sharing your experiences. I may well wind up giving up too once I get the bumper off. I had them on a 991.1 and that was straight forward. If this job looks like there is a possibility of messing something up I'll put the filter on eBay

picture of whats under the cover on 991.2 ( they also took of the bumper cross support which is below the air filter).
You just have to disconnect the little white air tubes crossing the filter to get it out.

I keep hearing about and reading that on the 991.2 that the rear motorized wing/spoiler has the be removed and that’s one of the issues that can cause a warning light.

However sometimes in the past I read this and that needs to be removed to get to whatever part...but there are work arounds.

Flick Roll if you could photo your progress on the air filter swap I’d sure love to see what you run into while doing this.

thanks!

Interested to hear more about your install since at some point, I will have to change clean/change my BMC out.

Since I had my dealer install a new aftermarket exhaust system immediately after it arrived, I told them to just install the BMC air filter at same time.
It made sense to me since they would have the rear bumper off, and I was surprised how involved it looked if I did it myself.

If the BMC is good enough for GT3 RS as stock, it was a no brainer for me along with my other planned mods.
