Great job Class5Kayaker!

It's great to see, as our cars start to accumulate years of service & mileage, how our Forum is starting to transition into more of a DIY maintenance forum. Thanks to Rennlisters like you.

Hey, I think you can handle Class 6 water.

Yes, thank you to the OP for the DIY!

I haven't replaced the belt, but I have done virtually all the steps leading up to it, when I had to remove the airbox to install the PSE. In my experience, the airbox can be tricky to pull out of the engine compartment, because its kind of wedged in between two parts of the frame. It took me a few minutes to find the right angle to hold the airbox to get it to slide out. And it also took a little courage to simply pull hard. Just a heads-up for anyone who attempts this.

It is not directional if you're replacing with a new one, however if you're pulling the old one just to inspect it and then putting it back on, Porsche states you should put it back on running the same direction it was before. I guess once it starts being used it "wears in" slightly here and there making it directional.

If you intend to reuse the old belt, make sure to observe the running direction marked earlier.

Fantastic post!

I notice there is a blue vacuum line going to what I assume is the sport exhaust. Did you retrofit yourself, or was it equipped at factory?

The OP's airbox and vacuum lines look a little different from my 2012 991 C2S. Mine has white vacuum lines, and don't remember the airbox having a vacuum line running intake right before the throttle body. Also, I don't get why there's a vacuum line running down through a grommet in the frame in the pic just after step 3. I think the PSE vacuum line should run further inside the engine compartment, down past the crankshaft pulley, and through a metal plate just in front of the center muffler. Here's how mine looks: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/8190...on-a-991s.html.

I have a Base 991.1 without PSE. I changed the exhaust tips because the base ovals screamed soccer mom SUV to me. I'm assuming all my lines are standard for a base 991.1. Previous Owner didn't do any mods to my knowledge.

Did this a week ago. Instructions are great. I have a 4S with PSE and vacuum lines were as described.
A few notes:
- the inside face of my crank shaft vibration pulley was full of crud which i cleaned out, as was the little inlets in the tensioner roller
- the carrier bolt spacer came out with a few gentle taps of a rubber mallet without undoing all of the other engine carrier nuts and went in just the same
- the engine carrier bolt torque is 44 ft lbs

Thanks for this. I had everything apart already for some surgery I had to do on the air cleaner assembly (long story) but this post and the links were invaluable.

FWIW I didn't undo the extra bolts, just tapped the spacer out of place. The hardest part was getting it BACK into place because if it's off by even a little bit you won't get the bolt through... took three tries before I got it right.

Great write up. I used it to do my belt last month.
I see you added a lines about engine sag.
My engine sagged a couple mm's when I removed the carrier bolt. I was freaking out when I couldn't get it back in. Then I figured out to jack the motor up a bit and it slid right in.
