Default Just got a 911s to change oil or now ?

My wife purchased me a 2013 911s a couple weeks ago. It has a little over 26,000 miles. I spoke to the service department in town and he suggested I go with the 40,000 mile tune up/oil change rather than the 30,000 oil change. He mentioned considering the Porsche is coming up on 4 years it would be best to opt this option. I'm not sure if that was just a sales pitch or good advice.

Should I just get the 30,000 mile oil change and wait it out. The 40,000 mile tune up is a little over $1,700 vs the $400 for the 30,000 mile oil change. I will probably only put about 100 miles a month on the 911s.

The 911s has CPO.

So you are the lucky dog who got the ultimate gift? Congrats!!!
I would just do an oil change and leave the 40K miles service for 40K miles. Enjoy!

I think we are all in awe of your recent gift! All the best to you and your wife. She is clearly a keeper. For the car, do the 4 year service. The issue is that the sparkplugs need to be replaced so they don't seize into the head. That interval also put involves replacing the air filter which means the bumper needs to come off. It will be worth it in the long run. Again, all the best.

PS you might want to check with the dealer and any paperwork that came with the car to see if this has been done before purchase. I was under the impression that a CPO meant the car was up-to-date in maintenance.

Good post.

Yes, see what was done during the CPO process.

I'd do the 40K service a little early, and "zero out" the car's maintenance schedule. Hopefully, most of the 40k was done during the CPO process.

Main items would be:

Fresh oil
Cabin filters
Brake fluid flush
Plugs
Engine filters
Serpentine/drive belt (not due, but early elective)

+3 on checking with the selling dealer if this was taken care o during the CPO process.

My new to me 2013 911 had full 20k service including brake flush by the dealer. Although, I did have to remind them about the brake fush and cabin filter prior to them shipping the car and after we made the deal. Enjoy the new ride.

Isn't the 40k maintenance time based also (like the oil change)? So it would be due at 4 years or 40k miles. I did my 981 40k maintenance (i.e AKA 4-year maintenance) at 36k miles.

I would go ahead and do the 40k service at 30k or now dependent upon the last oil service. As mentioned the interval is based on mileage or time. My 40K service was performed at 32K miles before I purchased it.

It's 40k/4yr maintenance. If you're at 4 years, do the 40k service. At my next service in Feb., I will be under 25k miles, but at 4 years, so I will be following the schedule based on time rather than mileage.

That seems to contradict the commonplace (in the US, not so much in Europe) that only miles and not time are important when valuing cars... When I bought my CPO at 16k miles and 2 years + 2 months it had just been serviced, then at 3 years (after 9 months of ownership) I did the 20k service (it was around but slightly over those miles if I recall correctly), and now the car is "asking" for a service due to time, not to miles. I am no expert but at 26k miles / 4 years unless they tell me that it is imperative to keep the CPO running, I will definitely opt to do a regular service and leave the 40k for year 5.

Personally I'd change my own oil right away, in 20 minutes, for about $100, following instructions on this site. Great way to bond with your new car.

The dealer I purchased my '13 S from (CPO), did the "major" service as part of the CPO preparation process. The car had about 22,000 miles on it when I acquired it.

It's nice for peace of mind knowing that the car has had a really nice run through of various in-depth maintenance items.

Congrats on your car! Your wife is far more enthusiastic than mine

I hope that was a typo and you meant that you would drive the car 1000 miles a month and not 100.

Your Dealer was required to do the 4 year service in order to CPO the car. If they didn't, they owe you. No way you should be paying for a service on a newly acquired CPO car.

The dealer that CPO’d our Macan did nothing. So, best investigate what has been done or not. The 40k should have been done.
