Default 991.2 Engine Oil for the Track

I searched and couldn't find anything.

Is there a recommended brand and/or weight for track use in the 991.2's?

What's wrong with Porsche approved OEM fill (i.e. Mobile 1)?

If you want an alternative, I use Motul 300v

Viscosity and weight is up to you, and the climate you're running in.

I'd run mobil 5w-50 given 0w40s propensity to shear down quickly.

Track + San Diego = Motul 300V 5w 40,

Motul Xcess 5w 40 (if you don't want to change as often).

I'm not a big Mobil 1 fan but their 5w 50 is what I'd run if using that brand.

Awesome! Thanks for the info!

I am in SoCal so I typically run a heavier oil in track cars. Its good to know a few are doing it for this motor as well.

I've got about 45,000 non-track miles (and about 9 oil changes) on my 991S with Porsche A40 Approve Mobil 5W50. My Blackstone UOA's are excellent.

Very nice LexVan! Where are you getting this Porsche A40 Approve Mobil 5W50?

Try to buy when on sale at Napa Auto Parts. It's about $6/quart when on sale. Napa does this about 4 times per year. About twice a year, Mobil runs a $12 rebate per case. Sometimes the two sales overlap and you can double dip.

What is 'shear down?' HTHS downward trend over extended drain intervals?

Mobil 0W40 is a fine oil. Mobil 5W50 is a slightly better oil. If you are running your 991 in cold weather months, use the 0W40. Both are Porsche A40 Approved. In fact, Mobil 5W50 is the only Porsche approved 5W50, if that matters to anyone.

In a nutshell, Mobil 0W40 falls out of spec (or is at the rock bottom range) for SUS Viscosity @ 210F and cSt Viscosity @100C. Mobil 5W50 has a more robust package, and stays in the mid/mid-high end range for both.
