It’s pretty straightforward, enthusiasts have a greater tendency to buy used to get more bang for their buck and thus are more likely to take what they can find on the market which might mean getting PDK when they would have chosen a manual if the choice (between two good transmission options) were not made for them already.

Well said, I agree with all that you have said! Including upgrading the stock "****" to the Function First aluminum ****, much improved feel (may be a placebo effect, but I still like it!)
My 2013 C2 coupe is my 24th Porsche over the last 50 years (yikes) , and all but one have been manuals. Seems to be a pattern here.
Recently had the pleasure of helping my son look for his first Porsche, and test drove a 997.2 C2S, 6 speed MT, and yes if I had to choose, it was a more satisfying tool for me.
Good news is we have a ton of good choices.
