2012 reliability
Hi all,
A few months ago my 997.2 was rear-ended and totaled.
I'm looking at a colleague's July in-service 2012 991.1 S, and trying to see if there were any common issues with the early units.
I found one thread about the 2012s, however it terminated shortly.
Could anyone help chime in any common issues or concerns with the initial cars off the line?
Thank you in advance!
Jeff

Mine is a January 2012 build that I got in April 2012. It had many factory campaign services in the first year, all of which corrected potential issues I never had. That included replacing all of the changeover valves. There are a bunch of them that folks report having to replace.
I have 36k miles and the only thing that has ever gone wrong is that the wiring harness to the third brake light (in the spoiler) has worn through. Of course that happened after the warranty expired but at 5.5 years of going up and down I suppose that its "normal" wear. Apart from that its had no issues.
It is my 5th Porsche, the only one I bought new, and by far the least trouble car I have ever owned. Get a good third party inspection in any case.

Very solid other than change over valve issues that affected some cars. Buy with confidence.
The change over valves are just small electronic transmitters that are pretty inexpensive. Do a search to investigate.

Mine C2 7MT march 2012 just replace tensioner and timing belt (adviseable once every 5yrs) water pump seems also has problem but hopefully cover by warranty. apart from that, its bulletproof extend warranty for peace of mind porsche can extend warranty up to 9 yrs

I've got a 2012.5 and it's been mechanically bulletproof. Changeover valves were replaced pre-emptively but there are even newer revisions that have come out since mine were swapped. Hopefully the ones I've got are good enough.
My only real complaint is that this car squeaks and rattles in ways that would be unacceptable in a 20k econobox. I've stripped down half the interior and applied felt tape to quiet things down. The rattles still pop up from time to time but at least it's not embarrassing anymore.

Unfortunately, too many models years have been effected.
@Jeffleept, sorry to hear about your 997.2. I hope no injuries. Keep in mind, the motor in your 997.2 is the same in the 991.1. It's the very solid 9A1 motor. Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks for that, I had decent whiplash injuries for two months, but moving pretty well now.
