I've always thought the same but they are extremely reliable and easy to repair however don't carry the same cache as an in house movement. $15-20,000 Hublot Big Bang.......ETA. That one surprised me. Many IWC and older Panerai etc etc.
Hublot has a relatively cheap movement.... they're a fashion accessory more so than a Engineering marvel like AP, PP, Blancpain and Rolex.
The ETA movement can be extremely accurate when. I agree but most watches are a fashion accessory really.
I'm not bashing an ETA movement; don't get me wrong, it's the workhorse of the entire industry. It's just an in house beskoke movement and you can get that movement in <1K watches. Hublot, Tudor, IWC, etc, etc... all use variations of it.
A ferrari is more bespoke, hand crafted and exotic but a ford is more reliable and does a better job at "telling time." We all want the ferrari!

Agreed and nobody is lining up to buy a Ferrari with a Ford engine in it.
ETA movements are cheap and don’t belong in in watches that are priced in the $10-30k range.
