Curious: any emissions legal way to make a 991.2 sound better on the interior?

There's obviously no further reduction in emissions post cat so its curious.

You can't make any changes to the exhaust system that make it either emissions noncompliant or increase sound volume over OEM. If you remove a muffler, you need to replace it with a muffler that is stamped compliant.

It's a little more complicated, such that if you modified it only slightly so as to keep the sound under the legal limit and you do it without eliminating the muffler or using a cutout or bypass, you could stay legal. But given how close Porsches already are to the CA limit, I doubt you'd be able to stay legal. That said, unless you have a smog guy refuse to pass it due to mods, which some will do, the only way you get caught is if a cop tests you. That will likely only happen if your car is realllly loud.

All Porsches are legal in CA in stock form. It's when you start messing with the exhaust that it you have the potential for problems. Everyone has different risk tolerance.

Sounds fair enough. Perhaps the test drive was not enough time to judge... and on the test, I had to drive 2 cars and use my imagination as one had PSE, the other had SC, but neither had both which is what I ordered.

If I’m reading these posts right, it sounds like the issue with an x pipe is that it’s fine with emissions, it’s just a noise problem (legally) which doesn’t concern me much.

Is all of the noise outside of the car or does it make the inside better too?

My main concern is the inside, the 991.2 PSE sounds great on the outside, but seemed so quiet on the inside... potentially quieter than my non-PSE 991.1.

Either way, I’ll play with the car a bit in stock form before deciding if I need to go breaking any laws... ;-)

If it just interior sound, then try removing the padding on the back shelf behind the rear seats. That will let in more engine noise. If you like it you can replace it with thinner material or leave an opening in the current material.

cheap to try at least.

Interesting, is that easy to do/undo any any guides/how-to's on here to look at?

I think the GTS may have done something like that standard if I remember right?

Look for the DSC install guide DIY in this forum. They opened it up.
( just start pulling up in the center once you put the rear seats down).

GTS has less insulation to make it noisier than the S.

I'm not sure of the .2 sound symposer setup. But could you rig those (believe there are two) to stay open all the time?

What is a sound symposer, and how do you rig them to stay open?
