Transport Truck or Drive it Home (cross-country purchase)
I've been searching for a long, long time and have finally found the perfect 991.1 S. Trouble is, I'm in Western Canada and the car is 3,500 km from me in Eastern Canada.
Am I crazy to want to fly out and drive it back? My brother and I are both big car nuts and we figured it'd be a pretty fun once-in-a-lifetime trip. I'm certainly not going to do such a long trip with my wife and kids, and I'm sure if we did, it'd be in her minivan
Is this an insane idea? It's more money than transporting it, of course.
I've done my due diligence, the car has a full front end wrap so I'm not too worried about rock chips or wear and tear in that regard.

Depending on how far west you are I would suggest you ship it to Calgary and drive it to BC and down west cost. The drive from east coast to Ontario has a lot of nice places to visit but from Ontario to Calgary is the most boring rather painful drive if you ask people who have done it. That said. If patience isn't your thing, fly and get it. congrats.

You're not crazy. Certainly that would be my impulse.
That said, it's probably not going to be that fun unless you make a point of adding stuff to do along the way, instead of making it a straight trip.
I've done a coast-to-coast trip, driving from California to Boston when I moved in 2003. It wasn't memorable because we were doing it as a straight trip, to get us, the car, and some basic stuff from one side of the country to the other.
Actually, I take that back - it was memorable in a really, really bad way, because I was driving a RWD coupe on summer tires, and we ended up on some snow and ice toward the end of the trip, which was really scary. Wouldn't have been so bad if I'd put snow tires on first, but it never occurred to me that I'd need them.

I was in a very similar situation where I live on the West Coast (California) and purchased my CPO 991 S from the East Coast (North Carolina). Although the experience would have been once in a lifetime, I decided to ship the car. The main rationale here was the mileage I would have racked up on the car. The cross country trip is over 2,800 miles. The car had 10K miles on it when I bought it so that's like adding close to 30% mileage to the car. If I didn't care about the overall mileage, I would have totally driven it!

I wouldn't call it a once in a lifetime thing, but then being in the military, I've driven from coast to coast and corner to corner more than once, so my perspective is a bit different.
That said, go get it and have fun on the road trip!! I would.

Do it. I purchased a car in Nashville, drove home to NJ.. another car St. Louis, drove it home. It was awesome getting to know the car, see parts of the country I've never seen and just clear my head listen to music and feel totally free.
Mileage is never a concern of mine. I buy them to enjoy them as much as possible. Even drove today and it rained last night so the streets are wet... I know crazy.

In 1999 my brother and I drove from San Antonio Texas to Vancouver BC in a 67 Camaro SS. We took our golf clubs and made a point of burning out in every Golf Course parking lot (4) and although it was hot it was fantastic. I've also driven LA to Chicago with my son in a Porsche 911 and we hammered it home in 2 days and still memorable as he had just received his learners permit and I let him drive the Porsche at least 500 miles of that trip.
Bottom line - do it👍
