Question Is Sport Chrono package neccessary?

I plan on buying a new 911.2 which will be used for normal driving (not track). the car has a sport button as standard and an option for the Sport Chrono package which adjusts the suspension and engine and transmission shift points. While useful for the track would it make much of a difference it in my normal driving?

We special ordered our 991.1 Targa 4S, 7MT. Didn't get it, haven't missed it.

Not necessary especially with MT but I ordered it. It gives multiple driving modes, rev matching, dynamic engine mounts and a useless clock.
I think for the 2k it has more uses than the sport exhaust for 3k which only adds backfiring sounds and no performance gain.

It’s required on a PDK in my opinion.

You want it for the Sport Plus button that really brings the car into beast mode.

I have PDK.....in a 991.2 base. I have autocrossed mine a few times.

I used to have a 997.2 GT3......and I autocrossed that car A LOT !

Sport Chrono in my estimation in a gimmick..........take a pass, especially for the street.

These cars are luxury items in themselves so none of the options are "necessary." Only a tiny percentage of the cars are ever tracked. Whether the sport chrono will make a difference in your "normal driving" depends on what you consider that to be. You might want to check: The sport button of which you speak (sport response button) is part of the sport Chrono package and not standard.

If it is a PDK car: Without it the car aggressively short-shifts to maximize EPA-reported fuel economy. If you are good with the car always at minimum RPMs when not punching the accelerator I guess you could skip it. I would guess the large majority of the drivers on the forum here either put the PDK in manual shift mode or if in automatic mode, enable sport-mode shifting with Sport-Chrono to keep the RPMs up to a more sports-car like level.

Also if a PDK car: Not having it would dramatically reduce the number of potential buyers for the car when you go to resell, resulting in a lower resale price, if you are concerned about that. In other words, not having it will cost you as much or more at resale time as you are saving now. I don't see any financial benefit to skipping it myself.

It's a must for me with a MT. I need the rev matching. I also like the clock too.

The clock is cool. And the only reason I added SC.

It does, though much more so with a PDK car than a manual transmission.

One thing that's not so obvious is that if you have the Sport Chrono package on a 991.2, you get the mode selector dial on the steering wheel instead of a button on the center console. It's much, much easier to use than the console button. It's nearly impossible to select mode by feel without that mode dial.
