rye, I too have a 991.1 GTS. As you already know, it's a very special car and one that I believe will be thought of in the future like a 993 is today (a "modern classic"). My car is about 2.5 years old and has about 10k miles on it. It's my fourth 911 and it may be my last, because I intend to own it for many, many years. I drive the GTS everywhere and I drive it regularly. I'm ****, like everyone else here, but I don't let that stop me from enjoying the hell out of the car. In fact, last year, for the first time in almost 20 years of 911 ownership, I put a set of winter tires on the car and drove it whenever there wasn't any snow on the roads. So if my perspective is in any way relevant to your life, I'd keep your GTS. I understand your lust for a 993, but it won't give you the everyday pleasure that your GTS will give you. But drive your GTS!!! Don't stand in the garage and just admire it. This is the beauty of a modern day Porsche - they don't need to be babied. They're real daily drivers. They're bullet-proof. They'll last for 100 or 200,000 miles with just good, smart care and a bit of TLC. I'll say it again, I believe the 991.1 GTS will be the next 993.

I completely agree! Wide body and vintage grille alone make it the modern C2S.

Understood that you can't relate. And I'm now taking the same view as you and will drive my .2 as a dd. Hopefully this hasn't happened to you but I had a careless driver hit me (tried to get me to take 50$ as comp) and I spent months and months trying to get insurance to fix and pay on an almost 150k car.

Sell it and buy a track prepped Miata. If it breaks throw it away. Owning an old P-Car is just as stressful if not more due to the fact the number of folks who can service them are dwindling and they charge top dollar (ask me how I know). Owning something this valuable is stressful and sometimes not the smart thing to do mentally if you are not in the right place.

Buy two. One garage queen to baby, one to drive. Problem solved.

Sell the 991.1 for the nicest 993 you can afford if you're looking for a collectible to polish more and drive less. The 991.1 will be tougher to maintain as it ages with the increased complexity and heavy dependence on electronics. The 993 is still made of archival materials for the most part, and should be relatively easy to keep running well in another 20 years. The 991.1 GTS is depreciating like a used car (albeit a favorable used car). The 993 is not; the newest ones are almost 20 years old. Lastly, the miles on your 991.1 GTS are already too high to make it "collectible." Modern car collectors are fixated on mileage and tie it directly to value. 201x model year cars need to have mileage <1,000 - often <500 - to be top-tier. Just check out the Monterey catalogs. Modern cars are essentially bubble-wrapped to add value, and your 991.1 GTS is too far along. It's also too "plain,"
since these modern car collectors often gravitate towards unusual/PTS colors and options.

For actually driving the car, I recommend the opposite. Your 991.1 is warranted, fast, reliable, safe, complete history from your original purchase etc. it has all the characteristics of a great near-daily diver. But your intention is clearly to preserve and drive sparingly, and I think it's tough to beat a 993 for that. A 993 is a wonderful youngtimer and a modern classic. Plus they are soft now and your 991.1 GTS is fairing pretty well at the time of this posting. Keep the change and get that ratty 986/7 to track!

Yep deichenb - that's exactly the justification for selling mine and getting the 993. I do drive mine, but I also baby it. It's just a tough choice and really I need them ALL!
