991.1 GTS - sell or keep?
Okay - I'm probably at risk for getting beat up 7 different ways on this one, but I'm curious to get the community reaction. I've got a 991.1 GTS that I bought as my "dream car." I've been obsessed with it - I keep it perfectly polished and clean, I drive it like a baby until the oil is hot, and even changed the break-in oil at 1,000 miles. It's got 8,000 miles now, and lately I've been feeling like it's just too precious for me at this stage in my life. I'm too **** and too busy to have this machine right now. I'm considering selling it and buying a nice 993 to cruise around town in, and maybe even a 986 Boxster to take to the track. (I realize the 993 is equally precious because of the market on those cars right now, but I'd somehow feel less nervous about an older car)
There's a beautifully kept 993 for sale locally that I've driven and fallen in love with, hence my current dilemma.
Am I crazy? I know you're all sick of speculating on the market, but is it a good or bad time to sell this car? I know 993 prices are relatively stable, so I'm not concerned there. And do you have any insights on what it might be worth? Prices seem all over the map from what I've seen searching around. 8,000 miles, manual, sport PASM, heated/cooled 4-way seats, sunroof, Burmester, 5-lug wheels in silver, Guards red with full two tone black/tan leather, pristine, full clear bra on entire front end and hood.

Update: I just found a thread I had missed considering almost the same question. Sorry about that - seems like the consensus was to hold it. But still...

"Too valuable to drive" is something I've heard now and then. It's not something I can really relate to, since I buy cars to drive them.
If you're going to replace it on that basis, it's unwise to replace it with an older, still valuable car, because insurance is all too likely to undervalue the car if something does happen to it. Just because it's old and they don't understand the collector's market.
It's not really a question anyone can answer for you. Almost anyone else will say "keep driving your GTS," but they're not the ones with your anxiety. Only you can decide if driving it upsets you too much.

I can relate. Does that make you crazy? Not sure. Maybe we are both crazy! But Boulder drivers are terrible. I've tried to just cope with it because I love 911 cars so much.
Probably not a bad time to sell as .1GTS p cars are holding value although next spring might even be better.
Good luck whatever you decide!

I recently sold my 991.1GTS PDK for a 991.2 S w/ manual transmission. I'm getting better enjoyment and have not looked back. The GTS is a great car but you need to drive it to enjoy it...life's too short. I only put 5k miles on my GTS in one year and have already put on 1k in one month in my 991.2. I find myself wanting to row the gears more and am always looking for an excuse to go drive.

Love driving the 993.
Would hate to own the 993.

Honestly, I can't relate. I like to drive cars and not keep them in a garage or a museum. The .1 GTS is the top of the line Carrera of the last NA model. Why get rid of it?

If someone keyed the door to your GTS, would you get more joy out of the car after because you'd stop preserving it? If so, let go of the fear or get rid of the car.
Alternatively, adding a 986 is quite cheap.

Keep the GTS and just drive it. Having owned and tracked a 993 for 10 years I don't quite get the crazy prices and desirability of the car right now. Yes its an air-cooled classic and fun to drive but I honesty don't really miss it that much. Its slow by modern standards, requires significant suspension changes to make it handle and is getting to the age where keeping it functioning properly will require a lot of work.
