Help with Targa vs Coupe w/sunroof
#16
Thanks for all the replies. I just went and drove a Targa 4 GTS with the top up around town, and the top down with AC on in the 101° Texas weather. Unfortunately for my bank account, this test drive sealed the deal and now I have to tweak the configurator for a Targa!
October build so I have about 4/5 weeks before the order locks.

Congrats - I agree w the unanimous pick as Targa for looks.
I went RWD Coupe with sunroof -- reasons were weight, SPASM, RWD, in increasing order of importance (to me).

I just don't understand why the Targa versions aren't the top seller in the range. I would have kept my 2012 cab if the 991 Targa was just a big sunroof like 997s had but the new one was just to beautiful to pass up.

I just can't even begin to compare a sunroofed coupe against a Targa. Targas just look amazing. I have a coupe with a glass sunroof and never use it - I even keep the screen closed all the time and I live in Seattle where it isn't even hot. The sunroof rattles (it took some miles for that to develop) and is noisy when open. I'll never buy a sunroof again. If I were an open-top kind of person (that is, someone who lives somewhere other than the Pacific Northwest where it rains a lot and the sun is hidden most of the year), I'd go Targa over Cab.

I drive a 991.1 Targa 4S, so a little partial. Would have nothing else! Telling my age with this phrase, but nothing like open air motoring. I occasionally miss the old carburetorated days, but the options on the newer cars outweigh the sentimentality. Cruising along at triple digits, top open, a/c blowing, seat coolers on … etc, etc. I don’t consider closing the top until it approaches the mid nineties as a general rule.
Almost two years in this car without a single top error. I still marvel every time I hold the switch; 22 seconds, counting the 76 miracles for it to open or close :-)
If your Targa decision is final, you have chosen wisely.
